Description
Mayura Daidoushi is a sixteen-year-old high school student and the main human character of the series Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok. She serves as the enthusiastic president of her school's Mystery Club, driven by a deep passion for mysteries and the occult that began when her mother gave her a book called Detective Nyanko. Her mother later died from illness, and Mayura has been living with her father, a Shinto priest, ever since that loss. Despite being raised in a religious household, Mayura struggles with belief in God because her mother’s death came despite countless prayers.

Her obsession with mysteries leads her to discover a talking doll in a clock tower, and while chasing a black cat that took the doll, she stumbles upon the Enjaku Detective Agency. There she meets Loki, the exiled Norse god in the form of a child. Mayura insists on becoming his assistant, and though Loki initially sees her as a burden—she often gets in the way or falls asleep during cases—he occasionally finds her unexpectedly useful. She attends the agency every day after school, eager to experience real mysteries, but she remains unaware that Loki and his companions are Norse gods, as she possesses no sixth sense whatsoever and cannot see spirits.

In the anime, Mayura is portrayed as loud, cheerful, and prone to exclaiming “Fushigi mystery!” (strange mystery), often acting impulsively. In the manga, she is calmer and more perceptive, occasionally sensing that Loki is different and wanting to know his true nature. Her motivations are driven by curiosity and a desire for adventure, but her deeper emotional arc involves coming to terms with her mother’s death and learning to trust and care for others again. Over the course of the story, she develops strong romantic feelings for Loki, calling him a very important person to her, and in the manga their relationship becomes more explicit. In the anime, when Loki appears to disappear, she desperately searches for him and wishes to see him one last time.

Key relationships include her bond with Loki, which progresses from annoyance to mutual affection; her friendship with Yamino, Loki’s loyal companion; and the persistent admiration of Freyr, the Norse god of fertility, who sees her as his ideal woman and calls her his Yamato Nadeshiko. Her father is a background presence, and the memory of her mother remains a defining part of her character.

Mayura has no supernatural abilities. Her strengths lie in her tenacity, her bright and outgoing nature, and her ability to sometimes provide crucial, mundane solutions that complement the gods’ powers. She occasionally helps solve cases through persistence or sheer luck, though she often ends up a bystander during the supernatural climaxes. Her lack of spiritual awareness means she is frequently excluded from the godly conflicts, but her presence grounds the story in human emotion and serves as a bridge between the mortal world and the divine. Her character develops from a naive mystery fanatic into someone who values her connections with Loki and his family, and who finds a new sense of purpose and belonging alongside them.
