Description
Yakumo Oomori, most commonly known by his aliases Yamori or Jason, is a prominent antagonist in the narrative who serves as a high-ranking executive of the Aogiri Tree organization and the former leader of the White Suits in the 13th ward. He stands as a towering and imposing figure at 186 centimeters tall and weighing 101 kilograms, and he is often seen wearing a distinctive hockey mask that contributes to his fearsome reputation. His physical appearance underwent a dramatic change after his imprisonment and torture; he originally had black hair, but the extreme trauma he suffered caused it to turn permanently white.

The personality of Jason is defined by profound sadism and a ruthless enjoyment of inflicting pain upon others, treating murder and torture less as necessities for survival and more as a form of entertainment. This cruel demeanor, however, is not innate but was forged through a tragic past. In his early life, he was a gentle child from the 13th ward who was deeply traumatized by the death of his mother. His psychological breaking point occurred after he was captured and sent to the ghoul detention center known as Cochlea, where he was subjected to relentless and horrific torture by a sadistic CCG investigator named Goumasa Tokage. To escape this unbearable reality, he developed an alternate personality, the sadist Jason, who identified with the torturer rather than the victim. Upon escaping, he turned the tables on his abuser and adopted the investigator's methods as his own, creating a personal philosophy that all misfortune in the world stems from a person's lack of ability, and that the weak deserve to be trampled by the strong. Despite his monstrous exterior, rare glimpses of vulnerability appear when he is under extreme pressure, and he demonstrates an unexpected capacity for concern and camaraderie with a select few individuals, such as his subordinates Naki and Nico.

As a member of Aogiri Tree, his primary role in the story is as a brutal enforcer and a major obstacle for the protagonist, Ken Kaneki. He is dispatched to capture Rize Kamishiro, but instead captures Kaneki, who carries Rize's kakuhou. He imprisons Kaneki in his personal torture chamber, where he subjects him to ten days of unimaginable physical and psychological abuse, including severing fingers and toes, injecting RC suppressants, and inserting a centipede into his ear. This prolonged torture directly catalyzes Kaneki's mental transformation and the full awakening of his ghoul powers, making Yamori the architect of the very enemy who would ultimately defeat him.

His key relationships are few but significant. His most notable bond is with Naki, a younger ghoul whom he took under his wing, showing him patience and even buying him birthday presents, leading Naki to revere him as a god-like figure. He also maintains a long and complicated relationship with Nico, a ghoul who enjoys his sadistic nature and accompanied him on his missions as a partner. Above all, his relationship with Ken Kaneki is a pivotal one. His actions and twisted worldview leave an indelible mark on Kaneki, who adopts his infamous finger-cracking habit and internalizes his philosophy about the weak being crushed, forever changing the trajectory of Kaneki's life.

In terms of development, Jason is a static character who serves as a dark mirror for Kaneki. His past as a victim who became a perpetrator establishes a cycle of violence that Kaneki nearly falls into. His death comes at the hands of his own creation; after defeating a rampaging Yamori in his kakuja state, Kaneki consumes part of his kagune, leaving him helpless and dying. The wounded Yamori is later found and killed by the CCG investigator Juuzou Suzuya, and his kakuhou is subsequently used to forge Suzuya's quinque, named 13s Jason.

Notable abilities make him an S-rated ghoul and a formidable combatant. He possesses a rinkaku-type kagune, which manifests as powerful tentacle-like appendages that grant him immense striking strength and rapid regenerative capabilities. Through extensive cannibalism, he has attained an incomplete kakuja state, a mutation that covers his right arm and head in a grotesque, armor-like shell that vastly increases his power and durability, though at the cost of sending him into a mindless, berserker rage. He is also known for his proficiency with torture devices and methods, a skillset he learned directly from the investigator who once tormented him in Cochlea.
