Description
Ulrich Kesler, born in 762 UC on Kleingelt, knew the planet's ruling family heirs, Vier and Aubend von Kleingelt. His career began with legal advocacy in the Imperial Fleet before transferring to the Military Police for commander training around 793 UC. During training, he handled a case involving a woman who destroyed portraits of Kaisers Rudolf and Friedrich IV. Kesler avoided her execution by declaring her insane while securing punishment for the negligent neighbor, an act of pragmatic justice that drew Reinhard von Lohengramm's notice.

Achieving captain rank by June 794 UC, Kesler maintained order at Viscount Richard von Grimmelshausen's promotion celebration, preventing a clash between Reinhard and Hermann von Lüneburg. Later that year, he delivered Grimmelshausen's intelligence on the high nobility to Reinhard at Iserlohn Fortress and reported Count Erich von Hartenburg's murder. Conflicts with high officials led to his transfer to a frontier post, though Reinhard promised to recall him once able.

As a commodore in 796 UC, Kesler executed Reinhard's strategy during the Free Planets Alliance invasion, overseeing the removal of border region food supplies to starve enemy troops, reassuring skeptical subordinates of Reinhard's intent to prevent civilian starvation. Promoted to admiral, he commanded the flagship *Forseti* during the 797 UC Imperial Civil War. Following the war's conclusion in early 798 UC, he replaced the corrupt Admiral Oppenheimer as chief of the Military Police, initiating sweeping reforms that purged corrupt officers and restructured the organization.

During the 798 UC kidnapping of child Kaiser Erwin Josef II, orchestrated by Fezzani agents and ex-Lippstadt League officers, Kesler was deliberately excluded from knowledge of Reinhard's covert approval; his salary reduction served as disciplinary camouflage. He later directed the investigation, though the perpetrators escaped to the Alliance. At the onset of Operation Ragnarök, Kesler was appointed Capital Defense Commander for Odin.

Under the Goldenlöwe Dynasty, Kesler continued as Military Police chief, focusing on systemic reforms. In 800 UC, he investigated Internal Security Department head Heydrich Lang at Cornelius Lutz's request, uncovering evidence of Lang's conspiracy to murder prisoner Nikolas Boltik. This evidence was provided to Hildegard von Mariendorf, arriving too late to prevent Lutz's assassination or Oskar von Reuenthal's rebellion. Kesler enforced legal protocols by stopping Wolfgang Mittermeyer from summarily executing Lang, insisting on due process, though he employed legally sanctioned forceful methods to extract intelligence from captured Terraists.

During the 801 UC Terraist assault on the Imperial Residence, Kesler entered through a window under fire while his forces were pinned at the entrance. Armed only with a pistol, he protected Hildegard von Mariendorf and Annerose von Grünewald until their evacuation. Later that year, he coordinated defense during Reinhard's final hours against another Terraist attack. On Reinhard's deathbed recommendation, Kesler was promoted to fleet admiral.

In 803 UC, he wed Marika von Feuerbach, a friend of Hildegard who facilitated their relationship.
