Description
Jibrill is a character from the anime and light novel series No Game, No Life, where she appears as a prominent figure following her introduction. She is a member of the Flügel, the sixth-ranked of the sixteen races in the world of Disboard. Her actual age is 6407 years, and she is known as the final unit of her kind, the last Flügel created by their god, Artosh, during the final stages of the ancient Great War. Physically, she appears as a tall, angelic young woman with long, flowing hair that reflects light like a rainbow and a distinct geometric halo that rotates above her head. Her wings, which grow from her waist, are visually small and seemingly insufficient for flight, yet she possesses incredible aerial mobility, often relying on teleportation rather than physical wing power.
Created as a living weapon to slay gods, Jibrill possesses combat abilities that are among the highest of her race, and she is considered the strongest individual Flügel. In the past, she personally slew one giant, one dragon, and one phantasma, all races ranked higher than her own, though such solo victories came at a great cost. A measure of her raw power is that just five percent of her full strength is enough to part an ocean, and she has survived a direct hit from a hydrogen bomb without injury. Her ultimate attack, known as Heaven's Strike or Airstrike, was once used to completely annihilate the elven capital.
Before becoming a servant to the protagonists, Jibrill was a member of the Flügel's governing body, the Council of Eighteen Wings. When the council passed a law to share all books among themselves, she, as an ardent opponent of sharing her collected knowledge, left her floating homeland of Avant Heim. She descended to the kingdom of Elchea and won its national library from the old king in a game, guarding it as her personal treasure trove for five years.
Her defining personality trait is an insatiable and obsessive hunger for knowledge, which she values more than her own life. Prior to meeting the siblings Sora and Shiro, she was immensely arrogant and dismissive of all lower-ranking races, viewing them as unworthy of attention. This changed when she was defeated by Sora and Shiro in a game of Materialization Shiritori. Having wagered her complete existence, including herself, she lost and became their servant, bound to call them her masters. This defeat triggered her primary character development. Initially, she held respect only for Sora and Shiro as exceptions, but over time she came to understand and appreciate the human potential for defying the odds, partly due to Sora's unwavering belief in possibilities, which softened her racial prejudices.
Jibrill's relationships are central to her role. Her primary bond is with Sora and Shiro, to whom she is utterly devoted. She respects their cunning and intellect, which surpasses her own millennia of accumulated knowledge, and she enthusiastically supports their goal of conquering all other races. Unlike other characters who are reluctantly dragged along, Jibrill embraces her servitude happily, even authoring a passionate and slightly obsessive observation diary about the siblings, which has become a revered text among her own people back in Avant Heim. She also has a significant relationship with her superior, Azril, the first Flügel, who regards Jibrill as unique for being gifted with imperfection, a quality Artosh believed was necessary to understand his eventual defeat.
Among her notable abilities beyond sheer destructive power, Jibrill possesses infinite intellect, capable of instantly recalling any information with perfect accuracy. She understands and can speak all sixteen racial languages, as well as over 700 other languages and ancient dialects. Her spatial transfer ability allows her to teleport to any location she can see or has visited before, covering vast distances in fractions of a second. In addition to her servitude in games, she seeks to learn from her new masters, acquiring new concepts from their original world, such as modern scientific principles and the use of firearms, which she masters quickly. After losing the game and becoming a servant, she is permitted to maintain her beloved library, but must now share it with all of humanity, marking a dramatic shift in her character from hoarding knowledge to a state of enforced cooperation.
