TV-Series
Description
Enyaba, also known as Enya the Hag, is a character from the Stardust Crusaders arc. She is a diminutive, elderly woman with a wrinkled face and missing teeth, and a distinctive deformity of her right hand that she shares with her son. She often dresses in simple, aged clothing befitting a humble innkeeper or fortune teller, which serves as a deceptive cover for her true nature. Her name is derived from the Irish singer Enya.
Her background is deeply intertwined with the origin of Stand abilities in the series. In the past, she acquired a set of five Stand-creating arrows from a man, and she subsequently sold or distributed these arrows to many individuals, inadvertently creating a large number of Stand users around the world. One of the most significant recipients was DIO, the primary antagonist. After she gave him his Stand, she was profoundly impressed by its power and became his most loyal and devoted follower and a trusted confidante, acting as a key advisor and aide. She is also the mother of J. Geil, a Stand user who is an assassin working for DIO.
Personality-wise, Enyaba appears as a cackling, somewhat senile old woman, but this is a facade that masks a vicious, cruel, and fanatically loyal nature. She reveres DIO almost as a god and is willing to do anything to serve him and his ambitions. Her motivations are primarily driven by her zealous worship of DIO and a deep, personal desire for revenge against those who have wronged her and her master. She is not motivated by money or power for herself, but by a genuine belief in DIO's destiny and the wrath she feels toward his enemies, Jean Pierre Polnareff in particular.
In the story, Enyaba first appears as part of the network of Stand users DIO sends to eliminate Jotaro Kujo and his companions. However, her most active and personal role begins after nearly all the other assassins, including her son J. Geil, are defeated by the protagonists. Feeling her son's death as a physical wound, she is driven by a personal vendetta, specifically targeting Polnareff, who killed her son. To trap the group, she uses her Stand, Justice, to generate a thick, supernatural fog over an abandoned cemetery in Pakistan, reshaping the area to look like a living town filled with inhabitants. Posing as the kindly owner of the local inn, she attempts to deceive and kill them. Her plan unravels when Jotaro deduces her true identity. After a confrontation where Justice is defeated, she is taken captive by the group to be interrogated about DIO. However, before she can reveal any secrets, a flesh bud implanted in her by DIO activates, killing her. Even as she dies, she refuses to betray her master, maintaining her fanatical loyalty to the end.
Enyaba has significant relationships with several key characters. Her relationship with DIO is one of absolute servitude and reverence; she is perhaps his most faithful subordinate, teaching him much about Stands and acting as his right hand. Her relationship with her son, J. Geil, is one of strong, if unspoken, maternal bond, as his death is the catalyst for her direct intervention. She also has a tense and untrusting relationship with the assassin Hol Horse, whom she blames for abandoning her son and tries to kill when he appears before her.
Notable abilities include her powerful Stand, Justice, which is bound to a city of fog. Justice allows Enyaba to control any living person or corpse that has an open wound; any cut, scratch, or puncture gives her complete puppet-like dominion over that body. She can also use the Stand's fog to reshape the environment, creating illusions and disguising an entire graveyard as a thriving village. Justice itself takes the form of a colossal, ethereal skeleton composed of fog, making it difficult to physically attack. Its main weakness is that the fog, and by extension the Stand itself, can be dissipated or inhaled.
