Description
Nocté, better known by her civilian name Yaten Kou and her sailor identity Sailor Star Healer, is a member of the Sailor Starlights, a trio of interstellar sailor guardians from the planet Kinmoku. She first appeared in the anime series Sailor Moon Sailor Stars. Her home world was destroyed by Sailor Galaxia, prompting her and her comrades to flee to Earth in search of their lost ruler, Princess Kakyuu. To hide their true identities and blend in while searching, the Starlights adopt the personas of a popular male idol group called the Three Lights. In the anime adaptation, Yaten physically takes on a male form as a civilian and reverts to her female body when transforming into Sailor Star Healer. Her birthday is February 8, and her blood type is B.
Yaten is characterized by a reserved, cynical, and often abrasive personality. She is deeply private and dislikes socializing, preferring to keep her distance from others. She is sharp-tongued and blunt, and she has little patience for fans, physical exertion, or anything she considers frivolous. Her favorite school subject is art, while she strongly dislikes physical education and has trouble with physical activity. She values her independence and is highly protective of her own space. Despite her cold exterior, Yaten is deeply loyal to her mission and to Princess Kakyuu, and she possesses a strong sense of duty. Among the Starlights, she is the most spiritually attuned and can instinctively detect when a star seed has been taken by Sailor Galaxia or her minions.
Yaten’s primary motivation is to locate Princess Kakyuu, protect her, and eventually return to their home planet to rebuild it. She views Earth and its inhabitants with suspicion and initially has little interest in becoming involved with the local sailor guardians. She is particularly wary of Sailor Moon, believing that trusting humans could compromise their mission. This distrust extends to her insistence that Seiya, the leader of the Three Lights, should keep his distance from Usagi Tsukino. However, as the series progresses and she witnesses Sailor Moon’s sincerity and strength, her stance softens, and she eventually cooperates fully in the final battle against Galaxia.
Key relationships include her close bond with her fellow Starlights, Seiya and Taiki, whom she works alongside as both bandmates and warriors. She shares a notable connection with Luna, the advisor cat, whom she allows to approach her—a rare exception to her otherwise guarded nature. Her loyalty to Princess Kakyuu is absolute, and everything she does is ultimately for her princess’s sake. In terms of development, Yaten begins as aloof and untrusting but gradually learns to accept help and form genuine bonds, culminating in her willingness to fight alongside Sailor Moon and the other guardians to restore peace.
As Sailor Star Healer, she uses the transformation phrase Healer Star Power, Make Up. Her primary attack is Star Sensitive Inferno, a powerful energy-based technique that channels the healing and cleansing power of her star. After Sailor Galaxia is healed and the conflict resolved, Healer joins the other Starlights and Princess Kakyuu in returning to Kinmoku to begin rebuilding their world.
