Nehellenia is a principal antagonist in the fifth season of the anime, Sailor Moon Sailor Stars, where she serves as the main villain for the opening arc. Her origins are rooted in deep loneliness. She was once the queen of a small, cold asteroid kingdom where she had no friends or loved ones. As a result, she learned to love only herself, which grew into an all-consuming vanity. When she asked her enchanted mirror to show her the future, it revealed that she would one day become an ugly old woman. Terrified and unable to accept this fate, Nehellenia became obsessed with preserving her youth and beauty forever. She began consuming the dreams of her own subjects, turning them into shadowy creatures called Lemures, and founded the Dead Moon Circus to serve her will. Her ultimate motivation is to remain eternally young and beautiful, and she seeks the Golden Crystal, believing it can grant her this wish. In Sailor Stars, Nehellenia has broken free from the mirror in which she was previously sealed. She is freed by Sailor Galaxia, who encourages her to seek revenge against the Sailor Guardians. Nehellenia uses the shards of her Black Mirror to spread nightmares and despair, targeting Usagi Tsukino and her loved ones. She casts a curse on Mamoru Chiba that renders him emotionally dead and drags him into her nightmare dimension. She then captures all of the Sailor Guardians, leaving Usagi alone and powerless. In her confrontation with Usagi, Nehellenia reveals her tragic past of loneliness, explaining that her fear of aging and her desire for love drove her to darkness. Rather than being destroyed, Nehellenia is redeemed through Usagi's compassion and forgiveness. The Sailor Guardians purify her heart, and she is reborn as a small child, given a second chance to grow up surrounded by friends and to learn to love others.
