Description
Mariana Kaioh, known as the Navegante de Neptuno, is a fictional character from the anime Sailor Moon Sailor Stars. She is a teenage student at the prestigious Mugen High School, an institution for the most intelligent and affluent individuals. Mariana is exceptionally gifted in the arts: she plays the violin, paints, and sculpts, and her talents are widely recognized. She is portrayed as elegant, sophisticated, and polite, yet she can display sharp anger and a cold, distant demeanor when her mission demands it. Her outward perfection hides a strong sense of duty and a willingness to make difficult sacrifices for the greater good.

Mariana’s primary motivation is to protect the world from evil, a mission she shares with her inseparable partner and lover, Haruka Tenou, the Navegante de Urano. The two live together and are deeply devoted to each other. Mariana is highly intelligent, rational, and calm under pressure, though she can be competitive and somewhat jealous. She dislikes being patronized and does not indulge others’ weaknesses.

In the story, Mariana appears alongside Haruka during the third season, Sailor Moon S, as one of the Outer Sailor Guardians. Their role is to protect the solar system from external threats, and they initially operate independently from the Inner Senshi. Mariana carries one of the three legendary Talismans: the Deep Aqua Mirror, which reveals the truth and grants her precognitive abilities. As a Sailor Guardian, she wields ocean-based powers, distinct from the freshwater and ice abilities of Sailor Mercury. Her signature attacks are Mergulho Profundo (Deep Submerge) and, after awakening her talisman, Reflexo Submarino (Submarine Reflection).

Throughout the series, Mariana develops a closer bond with the other guardians, particularly when caring for the reborn Hotaru Tomoe (Sailor Saturn). In Sailor Moon Sailor Stars, she and Haruka initially betray the team under the influence of Sailor Galaxia, but later rebel and sacrifice themselves in an attempt to stop the villain. They are revived in the series finale. Mariana’s journey highlights her unwavering loyalty to Haruka, her commitment to her duty, and her gradual integration into the larger group of Sailor Guardians.
