Description
Prince Demande is the leader of the Black Moon Clan, an antagonist faction in the anime Sailor Moon R. He is the older brother of Saphir and commands the clan from Nemesis, a dark planet where the group lives in self-imposed exile during the 30th century. Under the influence of the mysterious advisor Wiseman, Demande directs the clan's assault on Crystal Tokyo, the peaceful lunar kingdom of the future, using the power of the Malefic Black Crystal. He views the citizens of Crystal Tokyo as corrupt because of their extended lifespans, and he resents the prosperous society ruled by Neo-Queen Serenity and King Endymion.

Demande is a tall young man with pale gray-white hair, purple eyes, and a black inverted crescent mark on his forehead, a symbol shared by his clan. He wears a white suit and cape, with a serpent-like emblem and a dark jewel at his collar. His appearance is regal and confident, matching his position as prince of the Black Moon Clan.

His personality is marked by charisma, arrogance, and impulsiveness. Saphir describes him as dangerous, unstable, destructive, and prone to acting on sudden impulses while letting his emotions cloud his judgment. Demande believes strongly in his own superiority and expects others to submit to his will. He is also deeply romantic in a possessive sense, and this emotional fixation becomes his defining weakness.

Demande's central motivation shifts over the course of the story. At first, he is focused on destroying Crystal Tokyo and overthrowing the rule of Neo-Queen Serenity. After seeing the queen, however, he develops an obsessive infatuation with her and becomes determined to claim her for himself. When he encounters Usagi Tsukino, Sailor Moon, in the 20th century, he recognizes her as the past self of the future queen and transfers his obsession onto her. He kidnaps Sailor Moon and brings her to Nemesis in an attempt to force her to love him, imprisoning her in an environment where her powers are suppressed. His desire to possess her leads him to act recklessly and to ignore the larger goals of his clan.

In the story, Demande serves as the secondary antagonist of Sailor Moon R. He orchestrates the Black Moon Clan's efforts to invade the past, hunt down Chibiusa, and capture Sailor Moon. He relies heavily on Wiseman's counsel, to the point that Wiseman effectively holds the real power within the clan. Demande's reliance on Wiseman and his emotional instability eventually lead to his downfall. In the original anime, he comes to realize that Wiseman has been using him and has no regard for the Black Moon Clan. This awakening comes too late, as Wiseman kills Saphir. Enraged and grief-stricken, Demande turns against Wiseman. In his final act, he saves Sailor Moon from one of Wiseman's attacks and sacrifices himself, professing genuine love for her before dying.

His key relationships shape his arc. Saphir, his younger brother, is loyal and serves as the clan's technical leader, but he also criticizes Demande's instability. The bond between the brothers is important, and Saphir's death is the turning point that pushes Demande to rebel against Wiseman. Wiseman, by contrast, is a manipulative figure who exploits Demande's ambition and obsession for his own ends. The most significant relationship in Demande's story is with Neo-Queen Serenity and her past self, Sailor Moon. His feelings for her are possessive and rooted in a desire to control, but in the anime they are presented with genuine emotional weight, especially in his final moments.

Demande's notable abilities come from the Malefic Black Crystal. He uses its dark energy to teleport, to create energy-based attacks, and to project harmful power over distances. He is also capable of hypnosis and mind control, using a gaze or dark energy to bend others to his will. He attempts to use such powers to control Sailor Moon and to break her spirit while she is his captive. As a leader, he commands the droids and agents of the Black Moon Clan, directing their operations from Nemesis.

Overall, Prince Demande is a complex antagonist whose arrogance, obsessive love, and eventual turn against Wiseman define his role in Sailor Moon R. He begins as a calculating invader, becomes a possessive captor, and ends as a tragic figure who sacrifices himself after realizing he was manipulated.
