Togaru Kamakiri, hero name Jack Mantis, is a Class 1-B student at U.A. High School training to become a Pro Hero. He possesses pale yellow-green skin (greyish blue in manga), a bright green mohawk, and two hooked cheek blades giving his head a mantis-like appearance. His hero costume features a dark green rugged cloak, plain black trousers, three-toed boots, an eye mask, and a zigzag-patterned shirt. Born January 7, Kamakiri debuted at 15 and is currently 16. His Quirk, Razor Sharp, allows him to generate large, durable blades from any body part capable of cutting through steel and iron pipes while withstanding point-blank explosions. U.A.'s Ultra Analysis Book rates his combat stats: B+ Power/Speed, C Technique/Intelligence, A Sharpness. Specializing in close-range combat with high reflexes, he blocked Katsuki Bakugo’s explosions during skirmishes. Kamakiri exhibits a hotblooded, aggressive personality similar to but less intense than Bakugo's. He relishes combat, eagerly expressing desires to "carve up" opponents like Class 1-A in the Joint Training Battle. Despite this competitiveness, he supports classmates, comforting Setsuna Tokage and others after defeats and encouraging them to view losses as growth opportunities. He is gym partners with Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu and sees Bakugo as a rival. Relationships include collaborating with Manga Fukidashi on play props, being restrained by Yosetsu Awase from destructive carving, and forming a "cutting duo" with Setsuna Tokage due to shared blade-based Quirks and the kanji for "cut" in their names. During the U.A. Sports Festival, he placed 35th in the Obstacle Race. Partnered with Pony Tsunotori for the Cavalry Battle, he targeted Neito Monoma’s team before Kosei Tsuburaba’s Solid Air Quirk eliminated him. At the Forest Training Camp, he trained to improve his Quirk until the League of Villains' invasion, where Mustard’s gas critically injured him. He later passed the Provisional Hero License Exam. In the Joint Training Battle, Kamakiri joined Setsuna Tokage, Kojiro Bondo, and Yosetsu Awase against Bakugo’s team. Following Setsuna’s strategy, he attempted to eliminate Kyoka Jiro but Bakugo intercepted him, overwhelming him with explosions. After his team’s 4-0 loss, he urged teammates to internalize the defeat as a lesson. During winter break, he undertook work studies with Sen Kaibara and Kosei Tsuburaba. In the Final War against All For One, Kamakiri helped protect civilians in U.A.-Shiketsu evacuation tunnels. When segments jammed due to villain interference, he aided evacuations to safety. Later, Shota Aizawa teleported him and other heroes to assist battles against escaped Tartarus inmates. Alongside Setsuna Tokage, he ambushed and defeated the villain Gashly Eijiju at Takoba Stadium before deploying to Mt. Fuji for the final conflict. Eight years post-war, he graduated from U.A. and became a Pro Hero. Trivia notes: His surname's kanji means "scythe/sickle" and "cut," his given name means "apex," collectively reading as "praying mantis." His design drew inspiration from entomologist Jean-Henri Fabre, and he enjoys insect collecting.
