Description
Lygatt Arrow is the central protagonist of the series. He is a twenty-five-year-old man born on the continent of Cruzon as an un-sorcerer, meaning he is incapable of manipulating quartz, the mineral that nearly all other inhabitants use as a source of magic to power their technology and operate giant war machines called Golems. Because of this inability, he was marginalized by society and considered disabled. Lygatt grew up on a farm at Mount Pegoo alongside his younger brother Legatz, who was also born without the ability to use quartz. Their father deliberately sold all quartz-operated tools and worked only with manual implements to prevent his sons from feeling like outcasts and to build their physical strength. Through significant financial hardship and loans taken out by his father, Lygatt was able to attend the Assam Military School, where he met and befriended three other students: Hodr, Sigyn, and Zess. Together, the four were known as the problem children of the academy, with Lygatt earning the nickname King of Make-Up Tests due to his academic struggles. After two years, Lygatt was forced to leave the school due to a lack of funds and returned to his family farm, where he remained for four years, largely isolated from the growing political tensions between the Kingdom of Krisna and the Athens Commonwealth.

Personality-wise, Lygatt initially harbored a deep hatred of violence and was hesitant to involve himself in conflict. He is portrayed as someone who feels out of place in a world that relies on magic, yet he carries a strong sense of loyalty toward his friends and family. His primary motivation at the start of the story is to protect his younger brother and his former schoolmates from the horrors of war. As the conflict escalates, he privately admits to himself that his deepest driving force is his love for Sigyn, the queen of Krisna, whom he has loved since their academy days. This personal attachment complicates his role in the war and influences many of his decisions.

Lygatt's role in the story begins when he is summoned by King Hodr to the capital of Krisna. There, he is shown an ancient Golem unearthed from a quartz mine, a machine over a thousand years old that no magic user can operate. Because he is an un-sorcerer, Lygatt is the only person capable of piloting this Golem, which is named Delphine. Despite his initial reluctance, he accepts the duty and serves as a Warrant Officer in the Krisna army under the platoon led by Commander Narvi. The Delphine is vastly more powerful and advanced than modern Golems, and Lygatt becomes a decisive asset on the battlefield, though each battle takes a heavy toll on him.

His key relationships are defined by a shared past at the military academy. Hodr became the king of Krisna and married Sigyn, while Zess became a commander in the invading Athens Commonwealth forces, fighting for the opposing side. The war forces these old friends into direct opposition. Lygatt's bond with Sigyn is particularly central to his character arc, as his feelings for her remain unresolved. His friendship with Zess is strained by their opposing loyalties, and his relationship with Hodr is complicated by both duty and the unspoken tension over Sigyn.

Lygatt undergoes significant development over the course of the series. He begins as a peaceful farm boy who despises violence and struggles with the morality of killing. After witnessing the death of a dear friend and comrade in battle, he comes to understand the brutal reality of war, that it is a world of kill or be killed. This loss hardens him, and he begins to fight with greater decisiveness and ruthlessness. He transforms from a hesitant participant into a capable and sometimes fearsome warrior, though this change comes at great personal cost. By the end of the manga, Sigyn leaves Hodr and marries Lygatt, indicating that his personal journey concludes with him finding a place where he belongs and the love he sought.

In terms of notable abilities, Lygatt's single defining trait is his inability to use quartz. This lack, treated as a flaw by most of society, is paradoxically what makes him invaluable. Because the Delphine Golem was built by ancient civilizations to be impervious to quartz manipulation, it can only be piloted by an un-sorcerer. Lygatt demonstrates natural affinity for operating the Delphine, which possesses capabilities far surpassing any modern Golem, including superior speed, power, and a unique weapon system. His combat effectiveness grows as he gains experience, and he becomes known for his aggressive and effective fighting style once he overcomes his aversion to killing.
