Movie
Description
Cleo Saburafu is a young soldier from the Athens Federal Army in the series Broken Blade. At just twelve years old, she serves as a pilot of a new type of golem called the Eltemus, despite her youthful appearance being somewhat misleading as she is said to look older than her actual age.
Cleo comes from a distinguished military lineage. Her family has served the Athens military for three generations, with her grandmother being a retired mech pilot who works as an instructor at a military academy, and her mother holding the rank of a high-ranking officer. Raised within this environment, her education included attending a military school where she demonstrated a remarkable capacity for learning. Ordinarily a six-year program, Cleo managed to graduate in only two years. However, her quick learning in a military context does not necessarily translate to all areas of life, as she is often described as clumsy and a somewhat slow thinker when it comes to other subjects. She herself has mentioned that her positive skills lie more in domestic tasks like cooking and laundry, as well as maintaining a watch without growing tired.
Initially, Cleo’s motivations in the conflict are shaped by her nation’s propaganda and personal loss. She held the Kingdom of Krishna in contempt, viewing its people as barbarians. This perspective becomes deeply personal following the death of her friend and fellow soldier, Lee. Unaware that Lee took her own life to avoid capture, Cleo blames the Krishna pilot Rygart for her death and swears vengeance.
Her role in the story brings her directly into confrontation with her perceived enemy. During a battle, she manages to secure the escape of a wounded comrade, Zess, and engages Rygart. In this encounter, she displays a surprising level of skill that contrasts sharply with her typically clumsy demeanor, nearly defeating him. However, she is ultimately captured and taken as a prisoner of war.
This period of captivity becomes the central point of her character development. While imprisoned in the capital of Krishna, she is treated with unexpected leniency and placed in a shared room with Sigyn, a close associate of Rygart. Her initial hostility remains, and she makes an escape attempt by securing a gun to use against Rygart. The attempt fails when she discovers the weapon has no ammunition. This failure, combined with Sigyn’s continued kindness, leads to a significant transformation. Cleo befriends Sigyn, begins to question her nation’s portrayal of the enemy, and abandons further escape attempts. She is eventually released in a hostage exchange. Despite returning to her own side, the bonds she formed in captivity remain significant, with reports suggesting she retains a strong emotional connection to Sigyn and her well-being.
Regarding her notable abilities, Cleo is said to possess an innate talent for piloting golems, particularly the Eltemus, which is known for having complex and difficult-to-manage pneumatic systems. Her greatest strength as a pilot is her exceptional stamina; she can operate a golem for extended hours without fatigue. While her combat record may show few direct victories, she has demonstrated fleeting moments of impressive technical skill, particularly when motivated to protect someone. In one such instance, she exhibited a high level of piloting ability, including a surprising sequence of kicks, to rescue an ally. She has also shown the capacity to deliberately miss shots, suggesting a level of control and intention that goes beyond simple inexperience.
