TV-Series
Description
Kei Isori is a supporting character in the narrative, a sixteen-year-old student and a member of the prestigious "Hundred Families" as a direct descendant of the Isori clan. He enrolls as a first-course student, known as a "Bloom," at First High School, where he holds the position of Student Council Treasurer.
Physically, Kei is described as a handsome youth with a delicate, androgynous appearance and a slender figure. His features are such that the female student body has remarked that if he were to wear a skirt instead of slacks, he would perfectly resemble a tall schoolgirl, and he is occasionally known to display an unintentional, charmingly feminine demeanor.
Academically, Kei is exceptionally gifted. He holds the top rank in Magic Theory within his second-year class and is consistently among the highest performers in practical skills as well. His primary magical specialization is Release System magic, but he is most renowned for his expertise in Engraving Magic, an ancient technique considered by some to be somewhat obsolete. The Isori family are authorities in this field, and Kei personally crafts engraved magical tools, such as the custom CAD used by his classmate Erika Chiba. He is also an expert in magic utilizing delayed activation conditions and has sharpened his sensory systematic magic to a point where he can intuitively sense when something is amiss. One of his known Release System spells is Road Extension, which manipulates the Coulomb force between a vehicle's tires and the road surface to dramatically reduce friction.
In his role within the story, Kei is initially introduced as a part of the technical support team for the Nine Schools Competition, serving as a skilled engineer capable of calibrating CADs. He does not look down on the protagonist, Tatsuya Shiba, for his status as a second-course student or "Weed" and instead treats him with a friendly and respectful demeanor from their first meeting, impressed by Tatsuya's calibration abilities. Later, he participates in the Thesis Competition, focusing his presentation on the applications of engraving magic.
A key relationship in his life is with his fiancée, Kanon Chiyoda. This connection is a significant motivator for him, most notably during the Yokohama Disturbance arc. In the ensuing conflict, Kei takes a severe injury from a grenade while protecting Kanon, leaving him in a critical, near-death state. He is saved only when Tatsuya arrives and uses his unique "Regrowth" magic to restore his body. This event deepens their relationship; Kei feels immense gratitude toward Tatsuya. He initially believes Tatsuya's healing magic should not be kept secret, but after learning the tremendous physical pain Tatsuya endures (perceiving over a hundred times the original trauma) each time he uses the spell on others, Kei agrees to protect the secret and is horrified by the sacrifice his friend makes for him.
Throughout the series, Kei shows a degree of development by increasingly applying his theoretical knowledge to practical magical engineering. He volunteers to assist in Tatsuya's ambitious Stellar Furnace Reactor experiment, where his role is to exert Coulomb force control to prevent nuclear fusion within the reaction vessel. His aspirations point toward a future as a magic engineer, and he considers working at Tatsuya's Magian Company after graduation, partly to gain insight into the advanced technology necessary for his own family's magical research.
