TV-Series
Description
Kōsaku Hata is the protagonist of the No-Rin series. He is a sixteen-year-old male student attending Gifu Prefectural Tamo Agriculture and Forestry High School, where he belongs to the production science department in class 2-A, specializing in cultivation. He was born on September 20th. He grew up working on his family’s farm, which gave him strong practical skills in agriculture from an early age. He serves as the class representative for his homeroom and also acts as the dorm head of the school’s student dormitory.
Kōsaku is an intensely enthusiastic fan of the national idol Yuka Kusakabe, holding membership number 10010 in her official fan club. His devotion to her is extreme and often borders on obsession, driving much of his early behavior. He is naturally cheerful, emotionally expressive, and tends to act on impulse rather than careful thought. His vivid imagination and tendency to daydream frequently lead to exaggerated reactions and comedic situations. He is also quite straightforward in his desires and is not shy about voicing them, which sometimes reveals peculiar personal preferences, such as a foot fetish mentioned during a game with friends.
His primary motivation stems from his admiration for Yuka Kusakabe. After her sudden retirement from the entertainment industry, he becomes deeply depressed and isolates himself in his room. His classmates eventually coax him out, and shortly afterward a transfer student named Ringo Kinoshita arrives, who bears a striking resemblance to Yuka. This event sets off the main story, as Kōsaku finds himself in the unusual position of getting to know his idol personally while trying to understand why she abandoned her career to attend an agricultural school.
In the story, Kōsaku functions as the central viewpoint character. His perspective guides the audience through the daily life of the agricultural school, the various farming activities, and the comedic interactions among the student body. He is often the catalyst for plot developments, whether by pursuing his idol-related goals or by reacting strongly to the eccentricities of his peers. His role as a class representative and dorm leader also places him in a position of some responsibility, though he frequently stumbles into trouble.
Kōsaku’s key relationships include his childhood friend Minori Nakazawa, a caring and practical girl who often acts as a brake on his wilder ideas. His best friend is Kei Kamatori, a bespectacled and knowledgeable classmate who shares his interest in agriculture and provides a more level-headed counterpart. Another notable classmate is Kochou Yoshida, a large-chested girl from the livestock department who adds to the ensemble’s dynamic. The most significant relationship is with Ringo Kinoshita, whose true identity as Yuka Kusakabe creates a complex mix of admiration, confusion, and growing romantic feelings. Throughout the series, Kōsaku’s interactions with these characters drive the romantic comedy and his personal growth.
Over the course of the narrative, Kōsaku shows gradual development. He begins as a fanatical idol otaku prone to extreme emotional swings, but he matures into a more self-aware and confident young man. He learns to express his feelings more directly and to take responsibility for his actions, particularly in his relationships with Minori and Ringo. His practical farming abilities are notable: he has a solid grounding in cultivation techniques from his childhood on the farm, and he is hardworking and dedicated when it comes to agricultural tasks. These skills, combined his passionate nature, make him a capable if sometimes clumsy participant in school farming projects.
