Description
Gambiel is a character from the anime Z/X Ignition. She is an angel from the White World, one of the alternate dimensions featured in the story. Within the hierarchy of the White World, Gambiel is a member of the Twelve Apostles and holds the specific title of Aquarius, with the angelic rank of Martyr. She is a direct subordinate of the much more powerful archangel Gabriel and is often depicted riding atop a large water jug, which is roughly the size of her own body.

In terms of appearance, Gambiel is depicted as a teenage girl with a petite build. She has short, neck-length hair that is a mix of blue and green, and her eyes are green. Her design also features characteristic twin ahoge, or prominent cowlicks, giving her a distinctive silhouette.

Despite her cute and youthful appearance, Gambiel possesses a harsh and cruel personality. She is described as having a dark inner nature, being acerbic and ruthless in her actions. She believes that humans should be eliminated and sees no need to protect them. To achieve her goals or eliminate obstacles, she is willing to use any means necessary, and this ruthlessness even extends to her fellow angels if they get in her way. In the anime, she is almost always accompanied by a cat-like creature named Quon, a Cait Sith, with whom she shares a dynamic where her more relaxed and cruel behavior contrasts with Quon’s more cautious or food-oriented moments.

Gambiel's primary role in the story of Z/X Ignition is as an agent of the White World, sent on a mission to monitor the angel Fierte, who has escaped to the human world. However, her mission is not simply to retrieve Fierte. A larger objective for Gambiel is to observe and locate a specific Z/X and its human partner who have been continuously defeating other angels. This hunt leads her to the characters Ayase Kamigihara and her Z/X, Sieger. Gambiel and Quon confront the main characters in an effort to fulfill this objective, serving as early antagonists who create conflict and reveal more about the world's mechanics and the past of characters like Fierte.

Key relationships define her place in the narrative. Her direct superior is Gabriel, one of the Four Archangels ruling the White World, and she acts as a field agent carrying out Gabriel's orders. Her partnership with the Cait Sith Quon is her most consistent on-screen interaction; while Gambiel is the dominant partner driving their mission, Quon often appears more relaxed, providing a notable personality contrast.

Gambiel does not undergo significant personal development within the span of Z/X Ignition, remaining a dedicated and ruthless agent of the White World. However, background lore from the larger Z/X franchise indicates a much more complex history. In the backstory, a major civil conflict known as the Gambiel War was waged in the White World, an event that reduced the ruling Four Archangels to a state of emergency. Following this war, Gambiel was defeated and subjugated. As a consequence, she was reincarnated as the lowest-ranked angel, a significant fall from her previous status as one of the Twelve Apostles. This background suggests that the version of Gambiel seen in Z/X Ignition may be operating in a diminished capacity or under new directives following the rebellion that bears her name.

Her notable abilities are tied to her nature as an angel. She has access to angelic powers used for combat and surveillance. Her signature accessory is the large Aquarius water jug she uses as a mode of transportation, allowing her to fly through the air. As a member of the Twelve Apostles, she possesses considerable strength, enough to be a dangerous threat to the main human and Z/X characters, and she is not afraid to use lethal force against anyone who interferes with her mission.
