Nirengeki Shoda, also known as the hero Mines, attends U.A. High School in Class 1-B and later becomes a Pro Hero. He possesses a stocky frame, stands below average height, and sports short ice-blue hair. His round face features large eyes that often convey an apologetic or sheepish look. His hero costume comprises a black high-collared suit with pale white trim, black pants, white knee-high boots, a scouter-like visor over his left eye, and a radar-equipped glove essential for his Quirk.
Serving as Class 1-B's vice president, Shoda earns his classmates' trust through reliability. His humble and principled nature is evident when he withdrew from the U.A. Sports Festival tournament after Hitoshi Shinso's brainwashing, feeling he hadn't legitimately earned advancement. He consistently avoids fueling class rivalries or Neito Monoma's competitive outbursts, acting as the class conscience. In combat, he displays focus, teamwork, and maturity, readily complimenting opponents like Mina Ashido post-conflict.
His Quirk, Twin Impact, triggers a significantly amplified second impact at any point he previously struck, useful for offense, propulsion, or augmenting allies' attacks; its power scales with the original strike's force. His technical proficiency and reaction speed enable precise combat maneuvers, such as subduing Minoru Mineta. Shoda demonstrates notable tactical intellect, formulating stealth-based coordination with Reiko Yanagi and Yui Kodai during the Joint Training Battle and adapting mid-fight using his tracker.
During the U.A. Sports Festival, Shoda competed in the Obstacle Race (placing 33rd) and the Cavalry Battle before forfeiting the tournament. He trained to expand his Quirk's limits at the Forest Training Camp, surviving the Vanguard Action Squad's attack unscathed. He passed the Provisional Hero License Exam and participated in the U.A. School Festival play.
In the Joint Training Battle, he led Team 5-B's strategy against Class 1-A, combining his Quirk with Yanagi's and Kodai's abilities for coordinated assaults. He subdued Mineta and fought Ashido before defeat, later socializing amicably with Class 1-A. He interned under Pro Hero Shishido alongside Jurota Shishida, Rikido Sato, and Mashirao Ojiro to enhance predictive combat skills.
Shoda joined the global operation against Humarise in "World Heroes' Mission," assisting an American task force raiding a New York base and evacuating civilians during the Trigger Bomb crisis. During the Paranormal Liberation War, he supported the Gunga Mountain Villa raid as backup and helped confront Gigantomachia by deploying anesthesia capsules and coordinating attacks with classmates.
Eight years after the Final War, he remains an active Pro Hero.
