Description
Nobukatsu Oda is the younger brother of Nobunaga Oda and the second successor to the small kingdom of Owari on the Eastern Star. As a member of the Oda clan, he is raised with the expectation of eventually leading the domain, and both his father, Nobuhide Oda, and the court regard him as a far more suitable heir than his elder brother, whose reckless and unconventional behavior earns him the reputation of a fool. Nobukatsu possesses a gentle, nice, and caring personality. He believes that peace can be achieved through communication and that fighting is not necessary, a stance that contrasts sharply with Nobunaga’s war‑driven ambition. Despite the court’s preference for him, Nobukatsu looks up to his older brother and genuinely cares about him. He is aware of the weight of the expectations placed on him and, at one point, expresses a wish to be as carefree as Nobunaga rather than constantly living up to those standards. Within the story, Nobukatsu functions as a supporting figure who illustrates the more conventional and diplomatic alternative to Nobunaga’s revolutionary path. Following the death of their father, the clan’s advisors attempt to install Nobukatsu as the clan lord, believing he would be a much better leader even though he is the younger sibling, but ultimately it is Nobunaga who takes command. Nobukatsu’s key relationship is with his brother, whom he admires and worries about; he even asks Joan Kaguya d’Arc, while she is disguised as the retainer Ranmaru, to look after Nobunaga. He also interacts with his sister Ichihime and briefly joins Joan in archery practice. His development is subtle: he begins as the dutiful, proper son and gradually reveals a longing to break free from the strict role assigned to him, though he never steps fully into the spotlight. Nobukatsu does not demonstrate any remarkable combat abilities or supernatural talents; his primary strength lies in his calm, peace‑oriented disposition.
