Description
Kofuku is a minor god in the world of Noragami and is known as the goddess of poverty, sometimes called Binbougami. She appears as a young woman with short pink hair and a bright, energetic presence. Despite her domain over poverty and misfortune, her personality is cheerful, mischievous, and carefree. She openly enjoys having fun and causing chaos, though her shinki Daikoku often reins her in to prevent things from going too far. She is described as a bit of an airhead but also gentle and compassionate, and she rarely loses her temper. Her motivations center on supporting her friends, especially Yato, and helping those in need, even though her divine nature often brings ironic consequences. She loves sweets and frequently indulges in food, which leads to comedic moments.
In the story, Kofuku serves as a supportive ally to Yato and his companions. She provides shelter, comic relief, and occasional guidance, using her position as a god to aid them when possible. Her presence also causes rifts for phantoms to appear, making her a mixed blessing. Kofuku shares a close romantic relationship with Daikoku, her regalia, who was originally a god of the night. Their bond is playful and affectionate, with Daikoku acting as a grounding force. She also has a significant friendship with Yato, often calling herself his girlfriend in a teasing manner, and she is one of the few people aware of Yato’s darker past. She interacts warmly with Hiyori and Yukine, treating them as part of her extended family.
Though she seems frivolous, Kofuku has moments of depth and vulnerability. As a minor god tied to poverty, she sometimes fears being forgotten and struggles with her lower status among deities. Over the course of the series, she confronts these insecurities and reaffirms her role as a loyal friend, showing resilience without dramatic change. Her abilities are tied to her nature as a god of poverty: she can manipulate luck and fortune, though her efforts often backfire and cause unintended misfortune. She can also open dimensional rifts that attract evil spirits. In battle, she relies on Daikoku, who can transform into weapons or a giant form, rather than direct combat. Despite her limitations, her optimism and gentle heart make her a steady, if chaotic, presence in the lives of the main characters.
