Description
Chronoire Schwarz VI is a significant figure among the Tower Witches. Her origins are ancient, with her chronological age being over seven hundred years old, though her physical appearance is that of a youthful individual with sweet, almost innocent features. She has slightly pinkish-red hair, blue eyes, and is notably shorter than many of her peers. Her attire is distinctive, consisting of a long heavy waistcoat, slacks, and heavy boots, often topped with a small French-style hat that changes to a World War I officer's hat when she fully embraces her role as a Tower Witch.
Her personality stands in stark contrast to the typical explosive and impulsive nature of other Tower Witches. Chronoire is perpetually cheerful and displays a sense of amusement even in the face of defeat, which makes her an unpredictable and extremely dangerous adversary. In public, she is sweet-talking, jaunty, and respectful, presenting a facade that allows her to operate with a degree of civility even among enemies. However, beneath this exterior lies a subtle, patient, and highly calculating strategist. She is a meticulous planner who acts only after extensive preparation and is capable of a level of ruthlessness rarely seen in other characters. Her power is not usually displayed in a constant, overwhelming stream; instead, she prefers to store her magical energy, releasing it in critical, controlled bursts. She once commented that just a few minutes of maintaining total control over the powerful Ayaka Kagari cost her an entire week’s worth of accumulated power.
Chronoire is a master practitioner of potions and explosive magic, specializing in a craft that relies on preparation and intellect rather than raw, innate reserves. This approach is born from a noted handicap: she possesses very little natural magical regeneration of her own, forcing her to seek out and gather power from external sources. Her abilities are diverse, allowing her to use wide-area barriers, body transformation, and summon swords specifically designed to counter magic. Her most feared technique, which earned her the nickname "Dead End," is the ability to transform into a monstrous, reptilian creature, which she uses in her most serious confrontations. Chronoire is never without her familiar, a humanoid crocodile dressed in a business suit named Sebastian, who is known as the "Knight of Crocodiles".
Chronoire's primary objective throughout the story is to break the seal of Evermillion, the immense power that resides within the protagonist, Honoka Takamiya. Her approach is indirect but effective. In an early confrontation, she immobilizes Ayaka and stabs Honoka, exploiting a magical link that transfers his pain to his protector. During this encounter, she gives Honoka a mysterious piece of candy that dissolves one of the seals on his power, a gift she presents as a necessity for his survival while knowing it will lead him toward ruin and eventually allow her to claim the unleashed power for herself.
Her most significant and complex relationship is with Kazane Kagari, the head of the Workshop Witches and the chairman of the school. Despite being technical enemies, their history spans over seven centuries; they first met as mercenaries on a medieval European battlefield and have fought alongside and against each other for hundreds of years. This shared history creates a unique dynamic of mutual respect. While Kazane does not hesitate to physically subdue Chronoire to extract information, she also trusts her enough to appoint her as the temporary head of the school during her absence. Chronoire also has a notable interaction with Weekend, another powerful Tower Witch. After Weekend manages to trap Kazane Kagari, Chronoire changes her objective from absorbing the sealed Evermillion to absorbing Weekend, seeing her as a newly proven strong opponent.
