Description
Faris Nyan-Nyan, whose real name is Rumiho Akiha, is a second-year student at Kanaria Private Academy and a central figure at the maid café MayQueen+Nyan², where she works as the most popular waitress alongside her friend Mayuri Shiina. Behind the cat-eared headdress and frilled uniform lies a more complex truth: she is the daughter of a wealthy landowning family that holds significant control over the electronic district of Akihabara, living in a penthouse with her butler. This background gives her a unique perspective on the city's cultural transformation, though she seldom reveals this part of her life out of fear that others will treat her differently.

Outwardly, Faris Nyan-Nyan is playful, eccentric, and energetically devoted to her "moe" persona, famously adding the verbal tic "nya" (meaning "meow") to the end of her sentences. She leans fully into fantastical conversations and is one of the few people who not only tolerates but actively enjoys playing along with Rintaro Okabe's elaborate delusions. In fact, she often invents new scenarios that go even further than his, a skill he calls "Dubbing 10," forcing him to improvise to keep up. However, this cheerful and sometimes ditzy exterior is a deliberate performance. In truth, Faris is highly perceptive, intelligent, and deeply self-conscious. She is adept at reading people's true motives by looking into their eyes, an ability she calls the "Cheshire Break". This skill was born from a wariness of others, as she learned to uncover lies to protect herself from being hurt or abandoned. She hides her more serious and lonely side behind the exaggerated Faris Nyan-Nyan persona, a form of emotional self-defense that allows her to navigate social situations without getting too attached or vulnerable.

Faris's motivations are profoundly shaped by a single tragic event from her childhood. Ten years before the main story, a fight with her father led to her angrily wishing he were dead. He died in a plane crash shortly after, leaving her consumed by guilt. Her drive to open the maid café, a dream he had refused to allow, became tangled with this grief. This personal trauma becomes the reason she sends a D-Mail, or time-traveling email, to the past to prevent her father's death. When the D-Mail succeeds, it creates a worldline where she lives happily with her father for a decade, but it comes at the cost of drastically altering her relationships with the other lab members and the existence of the Future Gadget Lab itself. Despite the personal happiness this brings, she ultimately agrees to reverse the D-Mail to help save Mayuri, showing a capacity for deep selflessness and sacrifice. She is notable for being the first person after Okabe to clearly remember fragments of previous worldlines after such a change.

Her key relationships are central to her development. She shares a close friendship with Mayuri, both at the café and beyond. With Rintaro Okabe, she has a unique bond built on a shared language of imagination and performance; she is one of the few people to see past his "mad scientist" act because she is wearing a mask herself. In return, he is one of the only people she trusts enough to show her true self as Rumiho. She refers to him as "Kyouma" for most of the story before later switching to the more familiar "Okarin". Within the lab, she holds the designation of Lab Member 007.

While Faris Nyan-Nyan does not possess any supernatural powers, her notable abilities are psychological and strategic. Her "Cheshire Break" is a form of cold reading that makes her an excellent judge of character. Beyond social situations, she is a world-class expert in the fictional card game RaiNet Access Battlers, possessing a strategic mind sharp enough to defeat multiple opponents at once, though she rarely enters official tournaments due to her busy schedule. In alternate future scenarios, she becomes a member of the resistance group Valkyrie under the codename "Cheshire Cat," demonstrating her enduring courage and commitment. Ultimately, beneath the cat ears and playful "nyas," Faris is a deeply lonely but resilient young woman who uses performance as a shield while longing for genuine connection.
