Movie
Description
Fumimaro Ayanokoji is a police inspector serving with the Kyoto Prefectural Police, holding the rank of警部. At 28 years old, he comes from an old and noble family, which has earned him the nickname Inspector Ojaru. Physically, he has light brown hair combed back with a few strands sticking out, narrow eyes, and is typically seen wearing a suit.

Ayanokoji is characterized by a polite but snarky demeanor, and he maintains a serious and professional attitude while on duty. He is considered a highly competent and intelligent investigator, a reputation supported by his quick promotion through the ranks before the age of 30. He prefers to base his conclusions on concrete evidence rather than circumstantial clues.

His most distinctive trait is his inseparable bond with his pet chipmunk, which he keeps in his jacket pocket and has named Maro. He considers the chipmunk his only close friend and best friend, even changing his phone's background to a picture of the animal. While others might find this habit strange, he remains devoted to his pet. Ayanokoji also has a known infatuation with a 19-year-old maiko named Suzu Chika, though the nature of her feelings for him remains unclear. He becomes visibly nervous and dislikes it when others interfere in matters of his personal life, as seen when Heiji Hattori tried to investigate his love interest. He also has a fear of Tengu stories and dislikes archery.

Ayanokoji first appeared in the seventh movie and originally was a character created for the films. He was later integrated into the television anime and manga canon, making him one of the few characters to make this transition. In the television series, he has been involved in cases such as The Disappearing Traditional Japanese Sweets. Within the story of Dimensional Sniper, Ayanokoji is assigned a specific protective duty. Following orders from Inspector Megure, relayed through Detective Takagi, he is tasked with protecting a former US Army Captain named Jack Waltz. Waltz and his family are staying at a hotel in Kyoto after being identified by the FBI as a potential target in a series of sniper attacks.

Ayanokoji shares a notable history with Ninzaburo Shiratori of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police, as they were schoolmates and rivals, having both passed the same high-level civil service examination. Despite this history, Shiratori has expressed some level of dislike for him. In his professional interactions, Ayanokoji holds a strong respect for the deductive abilities of Conan Edogawa and Heiji Hattori. Unlike some other police officers, he often permits them to investigate freely, recognizing that their help can be crucial in solving cases. This trust is mutual, as Conan also views Ayanokoji as an intelligent inspector capable of handling cases on his own.
