TV-Series
Description
Jin Kisaragi is a former Major and the commander of the Fourth Thaumaturgist Squadron within the Novus Orbis Librarium, serving as a high-ranking military officer in the series. He is also known by the epithet Hero of Ikaruga due to his celebrated actions during the Second War of Ars Magus, where he single-handedly broke through the defenses of the Ikaruga nation without killing a single person. Jin is the younger brother of the rogue SS-class criminal Ragna the Bloodedge and the older brother of Saya. As a child, he was extremely dependent on Ragna for affection, and he grew intensely jealous of the attention Ragna gave to their frail sister, Saya, often bullying her in retaliation. This jealousy culminated in a traumatic childhood incident when the malevolent spirit Yuuki Terumi manipulated Jin. After Saya gave him the Nox Nyctores sword Yukianesa, Jin, influenced by Terumi, stood by as his brother’s arm was severed and his sister was kidnapped. Following this, Jin’s memories of the event were blocked, and he was adopted by the prestigious Kisaragi family, one of the twelve families that govern the Librarium.
Personality-wise, Jin is typically aloof, cold, and arrogant, speaking with a sharp and dismissive tone toward most people. He is obsessed with his older brother, Ragna, and his primary motivation is to find, confront, and ultimately kill him, a drive that often leads him to abandon his military duties without hesitation. This fixation borders on the unstable, as his personality is heavily corrupted by the influence of his sword, Yukianesa, which rekindles his lost memories and fuels his homicidal fury. He harbors an intense and seemingly irrational hatred for Noel Vermillion, a subordinate who bears a striking resemblance to his lost sister Saya. Despite his mental instability and dubious loyalty to the Librarium, he is genuinely respected within the organization for his undeniable strength and efficiency as a commander, though he feels completely empty even after receiving numerous awards. His dislikes include weakness and meat dishes, while his hobby involves collecting vintage motorcycles.
In the story, Jin plays the role of a rival and secondary protagonist. Upon learning that Ragna has appeared in the 13th Hierarchical City of Kagutsuchi, he deserts his post to hunt him down. Throughout this pursuit, he struggles against the corrupting influence of his sword. Key relationships define his actions. His dynamic with Ragna is one of obsessive rivalry—he wishes to be the one to destroy his brother. Contrastingly, his relationship with Noel Vermillion is defined by contempt and disgust because her face reminds him of the sister he lost. He shares a more complex bond with Tsubaki Yayoi, a childhood friend and fellow officer; in earlier timelines, she served as his secretary and cared for him, though Yukianesa’s influence often causes him to treat her harshly. Over the course of the narrative, Jin begins to understand the nature of his madness. After encountering the legendary swordsman Jubei, he learns about the Power of Order and undergoes a painful procedure by Rachel Alucard that limits Yukianesa's corrupting influence, allowing him to begin fighting without the sword's direct control over his psyche. In the anime BlazBlue Alter Memory, he is depicted engaging in a significant battle against Tsubaki Yayoi within the Cathedral, where he manages to awaken his Power of Order to fully activate Yukianesa and defeat her.
Regarding notable abilities, Jin wields the Nox Nyctores named Mucro Algesco: Yukianesa, a cursed blade with the power to control ice. His fighting style is based on iaijutsu, or quick-draw swordsmanship, keeping the weapon sheathed until the moment of attack. He is able to freeze opponents solid, a technique known as his Drive, Frost Bite. Jin possesses an exceptional level of control over his element, capable of shaping crystallized water in the air into various forms, such as projectiles, barriers, or blades of ice of different sizes. His mere presence is often enough to generate falling snowflakes in the surrounding atmosphere. As a personification of Order, Jin is said to be immune to Phenomenon Intervention, an ability to manipulate events, and possesses a powerful will that allows him to resist the mental domination of his own weapon. Beyond his magical prowess, he is a highly accomplished martial artist and tactical commander, having received rigorous formal training from a young age.
