Kyōsuke Kishi is an oni, a type of youkai, who serves as the personal secretary and assistant to Hime Yarizakura, the town mayor of Sakurashinmachi. He is an eighteen-year-old young man with a tall and mature appearance, black hair, gray eyes, and typically wears glasses. His true nature as an oni grants him superhuman strength, but this power is kept in check by a bracelet-like seal worn around his left wrist. The seal functions as a placebo; it remains effective only as long as he remains conscious of his own identity and limitations. When he becomes fully serious or unleashes his strength, two small horns emerge from his head. Kyōsuke's personality is serious, dutiful, and protective. He often acts as a stern overseer for Hime, keeping her focused on her responsibilities. Toward Akina Hiizumi, the head of the Hiizumi Life Counseling Office, Kyōsuke frequently displays a harsh and critical attitude. He holds the belief that Akina's power as the oyakume, the one who can tune youkai out of the human world, is not necessary for protecting the town. In his view, the youkai living in the human world suffer because Akina has not fully succeeded in his role. This friction leads to recurring arguments between the two, with Akina often teasing Kyōsuke about having a sister complex. Kyōsuke's strongest motivation is the safety and well-being of his younger sister, Touka Kishi, who is also an oni and shares the same need to wear seals to control her power. He prioritizes her above nearly everything else, a trait that others around him frequently note. Before coming to Sakurashinmachi, Kyōsuke and Touka were fugitives hiding in the mountains of Okayama. Hime Yarizakura invited them to the town during her first official task as mayor, offering them a place where they could live without fear of persecution. Since then, Kyōsuke has taken on the role of Hime's assistant and minder, serving as both a bodyguard and a stabilizing presence. He works closely with Hime, Akina, Ao Nanami, and Kotoha Isone, though his relationship with Akina remains the most contentious. His key relationship is with Touka, whom he watches over with intense concern. He also respects Hime's authority and follows her lead, even if he sometimes disapproves of her more reckless decisions. In terms of development, Kyōsuke gradually learns to coexist with the other protectors of the town, though his distrust of Akina's abilities is a persistent source of tension. The seal he wears is a constant reminder of his need for self-control; removing it would allow his oni power to manifest fully, revealing his horns and granting him access to his complete physical strength. His abilities are centered on raw physical power, making him a formidable frontline fighter in the defense of Sakurashinmachi. He is also skilled in combat techniques, having practiced archery and aikido, and his favorite food is gyudon, while reading is his preferred pastime.
