Description
Akina Hiizumi is the director of the Hiizumi Life Counseling Office and a main character in the story. He is the teenage successor of the Hiizumi clan, having been raised by his grandfather, Makiharu Hiizumi, after his parents became part of the Lost Generation. At eighteen years old, he stands 173 centimeters tall and was born on March 3rd. He has a thin build, short and messy black hair which grows noticeably longer when he uses his primary ability, and light grey or blue eyes.

Akina has a personality that is generally cheerful, kind, and cordial, approaching others with a light-spirited and diplomatic manner even in stressful situations. He is known for being tidy, hardworking, and responsible, taking his duties seriously without putting himself in a superior position to his colleagues. Despite being oblivious to romantic interest from others, he is observant when a friend is in need and offers encouragement. Though usually calm and gentle, he possesses a courageous streak and is not afraid to speak his mind angrily when defending his friends or demanding justice. Older acquaintances have noted that he takes after his grandfather, having inherited key values and beliefs, including the conviction that using his family's power to send someone away is equivalent to killing them.

The central motivation for Akina is his desire to protect the balance between humans and supernatural beings in his town while avoiding the permanent separation that his inherited duty requires. As the head of the Hiizumi clan, his responsibility is to perform Tuning, an ability that sends youkai and other objects to the Otherworld. However, because those who are tuned never return, Akina views the act as a form of killing and has refused to perform it since becoming clan leader, allowing youkai to accumulate in the human world. He genuinely enjoys having youkai around and wants to find an alternative solution, even acknowledging that his position is a selfish one. His grandfather taught him that Tuning cuts contact with a person indefinitely, and this lesson drives Akina to wait and reflect rather than use his powers in what he considers a wrong way. His role as director of the counseling office involves resolving problems involving supernatural elements and often stopping his more impulsive friends, particularly Hime Yarizakura, from going overboard.

In terms of relationships, Akina is a childhood friend of Hime Yarizakura, the mayor of the town, and as children he knitted her a long scarf to hide a scar on her neck, a gift she continues to cherish. He maintains close friendships with other main characters including Ao Nanami, Kotoha Isone, Kyosuke Kishi, and Touka Kishi, having been the first person to greet and befriend Kyosuke and Touka when they came to live with Hime. Within the group, he often serves as the voice of reason who corrects and reacts to the antics of his friends. His colleagues value his spiritual and moral support, even though his physical abilities are inferior to theirs, and they remind him that he serves as an important support for the youkai of the town.

Akina shows development through his struggle to reconcile his inherited duty with his personal beliefs and his determination to protect his friends. He is described as a character in development, open to growing in a positive direction. His willingness to put himself in danger as a last resort for what he believes is a greater good demonstrates his evolving sense of courage and responsibility.

Akina possesses the ability known as Tuning, the primary power of the Hiizumi clan which he inherited as Oyakume. This ability allows him to send objects, projectiles, or parts of the environment to the Otherworld, effectively removing them from the human dimension. He can also perform Partial Tuning, which lets him exorcise fallen individuals without sending them entirely to the Otherworld. Another application of Tuning forces a spirit out of a body, used to remove demons that have dropped into humans or animals. When Akina uses Tuning, his hair grows longer, a state referred to as Duty Mode. If he uses this power excessively, he begins to slip out of alignment with the human world, causing his hair to grow even longer, his arm to turn black, and intense pain to course through his body. To counteract these effects and restore his alignment, he must make physical contact with a normal human being. Compared to his teammates, Akina has limited physical fighting skills and is physically vulnerable as a normal human, so during battles he typically takes on a support role rather than engaging in direct combat, a situation that sometimes causes him frustration. At one point, under orders from Yuhi Shinatsuhiko, he seals his Tuning abilities to prepare for a decisive battle. A second ability called Dropping is said to lie dormant within him, though he has not demonstrated any use of it. Outside of his supernatural abilities, Akina holds a level three certificate in abacus calculation, enjoys cleaning and cooking, and is skilled at sewing.
