Description
Caroline Yajima is the daughter of the president of the Yajima Corporation, a major trading company with significant influence in the world of Gunpla. She is a talented artist who regularly wins awards at art exhibitions, a skill that forms the foundation of her primary motivation at the start of the series.
Caroline has a bossy, willful, and arrogant personality, often presenting herself as a typical spoiled young lady. She is insecure about her abilities when compared to others, particularly regarding her artistic rival, China Kousaka. Despite her demanding nature, she is also shown to be innocent and childish, and her more abrasive traits are often played for comedic effect. Her appearance includes blonde hair styled into twin drills and she is frequently seen carrying a whip, which complements her commanding attitude.
Her central motivation is to defeat China Kousaka in any field, as she views China as her greatest rival. After being bested by a painting of China's Bearguy III model, Caroline decides to challenge China to a Gunpla battle to avenge her loss. This leads to her entering a girls-only Gunpla tournament. At this point, Caroline has no experience with Gunpla building or battling. To compensate, she leverages her father's sponsorship of the American fighter and researcher Nils Nielsen, demanding that he build a powerful Gunpla for her and provide her with a winning strategy. Nils provides her with an SD Knight Gundam and a foolproof tactic. In the battle against China's Bearguy III, the Knight Gundam's superior mobility and weaponry initially dominate the match. However, Caroline loses when China uses cotton, which she had put inside her Gunpla for aesthetic reasons, to trap the Knight Gundam and eject it from the arena for a ring-out.
Paradoxically, despite her crushing defeat, Caroline develops a strong romantic infatuation with Nils Nielsen. She declares him to be her boyfriend and later upgrades his status to her fiancé, a title he accepts very reluctantly. Throughout the rest of the series, she consistently follows and supports him, even providing her butlers to help him track a mysterious PPSE truck. The two later discover a hidden passage leading to a massive Plavsky Particle crystal beneath the tournament arena, where they are discovered and held captive. During the ensuing chaos, they escape and Caroline, piloting her Full Armor Knight Gundam, joins the other fighters in battling the army of Mocks that threatens the stadium. Following the events of the tournament, Caroline works alongside Nils in his successful effort to recreate the Plavsky Particles, a discovery that brings them worldwide acclaim.
