TV-Series
Description
Chairman Mashita is the main antagonist of the series, serving as the Chairman and CEO of the Plavsky Particle System Engineering company, known as PPSE. This corporation holds a global monopoly on the Gundam Battle System and the Plavsky Particles it uses. Mashita is a man of short stature with slicked-back grey hair, grey eyes, and typically wears a formal business suit that befits his position as the head of a major corporation.
His personality is marked by a striking contradiction between his powerful title and his genuinely childish, cowardly, and lazy nature. He did not achieve his success through intelligence or hard work but attributes it entirely to the power of the Arista, a special gem, and the resulting Plavsky Particles. He holds no respect for anyone involved in the business that made him wealthy, seeing it only as a tool to live a comfortable, rich life. Despite the vast potential of the technology he controls to change the world, Mashita proudly states that such an endeavor would be too much trouble. His primary motivations are simple: to remain wealthy, live a life of ease, and protect the comfortable status he has built for himself. To this end, he is completely unscrupulous and does not hesitate to use underhanded and illegal tactics, willing to sacrifice the integrity of his own tournament to eliminate any perceived threats.
Mashita was not originally from the Earth seen in the series. In his past, he was a petty thief from the world of Arian. He snuck into the royal palace's treasure room and stole an Arista, which reacted and transported him to Earth. Disoriented and lost, he met his future secretary, Baker, who helped him understand the gem's power. Together, they founded PPSE, using the Plavsky Particles generated by the Arista to create the immensely popular Gunpla Battle system. This business made him a billionaire, and he serves as the top official running the annual Gunpla Battle World Tournament.
His central role in the story is as the primary obstacle for the protagonists. His motivation to antagonize Sei and Reiji is not rooted in a grudge against the characters themselves, but in pure self-preservation. Upon seeing Reiji, Mashita becomes visibly shaken with fear, recognizing him as a slightly older version of the Prince of Arian, his homeworld. He fears that the prince is there to expose him as a thief and bring him to justice, which would cost him his comfortable life. This fear drives him to attempt to eliminate the pair from the tournament by any means necessary.
The most significant relationship in Mashita's life is with his secretary, Baker. She is the brilliant and capable strategist who actually devises and executes all of his schemes, from hiring the Gunpla Mafia to sabotage races to manipulating tournament brackets. She shows a deep, almost maternal loyalty to the childish chairman, even giving him a lap pillow to comfort his anxieties. While Mashita just wants a quiet life of wealth, Baker harbors more ambitious dreams of using the Arista to conquer the world, though she ultimately abandons this idea to follow the chairman's wishes. He also has a younger twin brother named Mikio Mashita in Arian.
Throughout the competition, Mashita orchestrates several underhanded plots. He hires a Gunpla Mafia member to attack Sei and Reiji in a racing event. When that fails, he forces the third Meijin, Tatsuya Yuuki, to wear a brainwashing device that reverts him to the ruthless fighting style of the second Meijin. Mashita uses the Arista in his pocket watch to exert his will over the fighter, revealing that he was the one who originally corrupted the second Meijin into a feared monster. When his plans are foiled, he panics and causes his Arista to react with a massive one hidden under the tournament arena, summoning a real, physical replica of the space fortress A Baoa Qu.
In his desperation, Mashita’s true nature as a foolish, small-minded man is fully exposed. He is not a master strategist but a coward who has always run from his problems. The one notable ability he possesses comes from his Arista, which he keeps in his pocket watch. This gem, a crystal of Plavsky Particles, can resonate with others to grant powerful wishes or exert control over individuals, as he does with the Meijin. It was also the source of the particles that powered his entire company.
In the end, after the protagonists destroy the large Arista powering the A Baoa Qu replica, its destruction severs the link that brought Mashita to Earth. He begins to glow and is forcibly pulled back to his homeworld of Arian. He screams in denial, unable to accept that he is losing his empire. Baker, in her ultimate act of loyalty, embraces him and allows herself to be pulled along. Despite his fear of returning as a criminal, the pair find a happy, simple ending; they are last seen back in Arian, where they have started a new life together selling Gunpla on the street.
