Description
Dimitrie Vatler is a character who serves as the ambassador from the Warlord's Empire to the man-made island of Itogami. He holds the noble title of Duke and rules over the Ardeal principality, a territory within the domain of the first primogenitor, the Lost Warlord, whose direct descendant he is. Having consumed two second-generation vampires, known as Elders, his personal power is immense and considered to be extremely close to that of a true primogenitor, or ancestor-class vampire.

In terms of personality, Vatler is a pleasure-seeker driven primarily by a desire to alleviate his own profound boredom. His moral alignment is ambiguous, and his actions are not dictated by conventional loyalties but rather by what he finds entertaining at the moment. He is most famously a battle maniac, finding genuine joy only in combat against a worthy opponent, against whom he never holds back. Despite this seemingly capricious nature, he possesses a shrewd intelligence, carefully managing his affairs to ensure his continued presence on Itogami Island is not jeopardized. He is often seen with a handsome appearance, featuring blonde hair, blue eyes, and wearing a white blazer over a lavender shirt with a dark blue tie.

Vatler's primary motivation is the pursuit of a thrilling and challenging conflict. This drive leads him to orchestrate potentially catastrophic incidents, such as the Nalakuvera event, with the explicit intention of engaging it in battle. His grand ambition is to gain enough strength to ultimately confront the legendary figure known as Cain. He is deeply fascinated by individuals who possess great power or will, particularly those who defy their destined path, as he sees in them the potential for exciting struggles.

Within the story, Vatler acts as a wild card and an instigator. As a diplomat with considerable authority and immunity, he moves freely within Itogami Island, where his actions frequently serve to test the abilities and resolve of the main protagonist, Kojou Akatsuki. His role is often that of an observer who nudges events from behind the scenes, though he will not hesitate to step directly into a fight if it promises to be interesting.

His key relationships are unconventional and often framed in an eccentric manner. He famously declared his love for Avrora, the previous fourth primogenitor, though the sincerity of this claim is ambiguous, and it may have simply been a pretext to get closer to the object of his true obsession. After Avrora's death and Kojou's inheritance of her blood, Vatler transferred this intense fascination to Kojou himself. He spends much of his time observing Kojou's development, relationships, and the growth of his vampiric powers. To add a layer of playful antagonism to this interest, he refers to Kojou's sword-wielding partner, Yukina Himeragi, as his love rival, treating her as a competitor for Kojou's affection. He also commands a legion of female attendants, many of whom are princesses or noble daughters from conquered nations, though he has no romantic interest in women and treats them simply as guests under his protection.

Over the course of the narrative, Vatler's development is tied to his long-term schemes. He is acutely aware of the island's secret plans to revive the ancient progenitor Cain, and he methodically accumulates power in preparation for an eventual confrontation with him. In the final stages of the story, even after obtaining the power of the圣歼, he is defeated by Kojou and cast into another dimension. However, he later returns to assist Kojou in a final battle against the descendants of the Celestial Race, after which he departs for the far reaches of space with his new companion to wage war on their home world.

Vatler possesses the standard suite of vampiric abilities, including superhuman strength, speed, reflexes, and durability. His signature and most formidable power is the ability to summon nine distinct, serpentine demonic beasts known as Beast Vassals. These familiars, each named after a dragon king from Buddhist mythology, are capable of destruction on the scale of natural disasters. Examples include Utpalaka, a serpent of frozen water; Sagara, a sea serpent that manipulates immense water pressure; and a swarm of countless serpents that overwhelm enemies by sheer number. Furthermore, Vatler can fuse his individual Beast Vassals together, creating a singular, far more powerful creature that can rival the familiars of a true primogenitor. He is also capable of transforming his own body into a giant serpent.
