Description
Ira Gamagori serves as the chair of the disciplinary committee at Honnoji Academy and is one of the four Elite Four members of the student council, holding the rank of a Three-Star Goku Uniform user. He is a massive, muscular young man with a darker complexion, short blonde hair, and thick eyebrows, often wearing small gold earrings. His physical size varies dramatically for artistic effect, often towering over other characters as an expression of his emotional state, a trait that likens him to a toad puffing itself up to appear intimidating.
Gamagori is defined by his intense, unwavering loyalty to student council president Satsuki Kiryuin, considering himself her impenetrable shield and right hand. He is always serious, loud, and intimidating, bearing no tolerance for rule-breaking and often shouting at the top of his lungs. As head of the disciplinary committee, he enforces the academy's hierarchy and his own strict code of ethical behavior. Despite his frightening demeanor, he never hurts innocent students and will aid those in need, once offering the protagonist Ryuko Matoi and her friend Mako a ride home. He possesses a pronounced masochistic streak, especially when using his Goku Uniform, and has no qualms about appearing partially nude. Gamagori is also deeply honor-bound, once vowing to never kneel to Satsuki and later attempting ritual suicide following a defeat, only to be stopped by Satsuki.
Before enrolling at Honnoji, Gamagori was a junior high student who confronted bullies threatening a younger student. Unable to save the boy from jumping off a roof, he witnessed Satsuki, then a freshman, save the boy and dismantle the bullies' power by ruining their parents. After initially resisting her declaration of rule, he tested his strength against her and, impressed by his resolve, she recruited him. Gamagori then delayed his own schooling for two years to enroll alongside her at Honnoji, making him 20 years old.
Within the Elite Four, Gamagori acts as a mediator due to his upright personality. His primary motivation is to serve Satsuki and protect the order of the academy. Throughout the story, he starts as an antagonist to Ryuko but evolves into a neutral and eventually allied figure. He also develops a notable bond with Mako Mankanshoku, showing her a protective side and interacting with her family.
Gamagoris notable abilities are centered on his immense natural strength, which allows him to overpower opponents even without his uniform. His Three-Star Goku Uniform is known as the Shackle Regalia, a mummy-like bondage suit made of tough cloth armor rather than Life Fibers. This form renders him virtually invulnerable to external attacks and allows him to absorb damage, which increases his size and strength. He can use whips from the suit to attack himself to fuel this power. Upon absorbing sufficient energy, it transforms into the Scourge Regalia, which grants him multiple spiked whips, an explosive area-of-effect attack, and the ability to crush opponents between arm-mounted molds. Later upgrades include the Shackle Regalia Mk.II and the ultimate Persona Unleashed form, which features fire-based attacks, enhanced durability capable of blocking swords, and a powerful energy blast from his stomach.
