Description
Gojiro Kajii is an elderly survivor living in the irradiated ruins of Tokyo years after a catastrophic nuclear meltdown. Before the disaster, he was a worker at Shinto Electric, giving him practical knowledge that would later prove valuable. In the present, he is on a desperate journey with his adult daughter, Ibuki Kajii, who is heavily pregnant and in need of medical care. He is encountered by the Coppelion when he is attempting to transport her to the Shibuya area to find a hospital.
Physically, Gojiro is an old man with gray hair, black eyes, and a notably pointy nose. He wears square-rimmed glasses and casual attire consisting of a blue striped polo shirt with a small chest pocket, beige pants, and dark brown leather shoes. His personality is a blend of a rough exterior and a fundamentally decent nature. While he can be a bit cocky or gruff, he is also a kind and intelligent man who shows great care toward others. This is most evident in his relationship with his daughter, whom he loves very much. He is willing to take extreme risks to save her and her unborn baby, driven by a desire not to repeat past mistakes and to prevent his daughter from suffering. He is also sociable within his small community of survivors, being happy to help his fellow refugees with practical tasks like repairing an old train.
Gojiro’s role in the story is that of a survivor and a father figure who interacts directly with the Coppelion protagonists. He forms a particular bond with Haruto Kurosawa, a member of the Coppelion Mop-Up Squad. The two work together and help each other with repairs at an electric power station, and Gojiro shows he cares for Haruto, being concerned when the younger man is shot while protecting him during an attack by the hostile 1st Division forces. Beyond Haruto, Gojiro has meaningful relationships within his survivor group. He cares for his fellow refugees, including Foreman Oyakata Kurobe and Gennai Ishikawa, and assists them with their work. His development is subtle but present; he begins as a desperate man trying to save his family and transitions into a collaborative and protective member of a larger survivor community, using his past experience as a power plant worker to contribute to the group’s well-being. His notable abilities are not combat-oriented but are grounded in his intelligence and practical skills. He has mechanical and technical knowledge from his time at Shinto Electric, which he applies to help maintain and repair essential equipment in the hazardous environment of the old capital.
