Description
Menma Uzumaki is a character from the alternate reality depicted in the Road to Ninja: Naruto the Movie, serving as the film's main antagonist. He is the counterpart of the protagonist Naruto Uzumaki within a world created by the "Limited Tsukuyomi" illusion. In this reality, Menma is the son of Minato Namikaze and Kushina Uzumaki, who are both alive and well, leading a happy and stable childhood completely unlike the lonely upbringing his counterpart experienced. Despite this loving environment, Menma eventually became a missing-nin, defecting from Konohagakure for reasons that are not explicitly explained. He began operating under the alias of the "Masked Man," concealing his identity with a white kitsune mask and a dark hooded cloak, and gained a reputation as a highly dangerous S-rank criminal. Over the course of more than a year, he dedicated himself to kidnapping shinobi with rare abilities and collecting powerful jutsu, seemingly with the ambition of conquering the ninja world.

As a personality, Menma is ambitious, arrogant, and callous. He shows little regard for life, having killed numerous ninja and even mortally wounding his world's version of Jiraiya. He is driven by a lust for power and is deeply corrupted by hatred, a trait that is amplified by the influence of the Black Nine-Tails sealed within him. When confronted by the real Naruto, Menma is immediately filled with a profound disgust and loathing, partly because he recognizes their similarities, which only strengthens his resolve to destroy him. His original cheerful nature has been entirely consumed, leaving a malevolent and cruel individual who takes pleasure in destruction. He is also shown to be easily manipulated to a degree, accepting help from the real world's Tobi (posing as Madara Uchiha) to further his own goals.

In the story, Menma first encounters Tobi, who offers his assistance. Menma accepts, and with Tobi's information, he successfully captures several jinchuriki. His primary objective, however, is to obtain the Red Moon Scroll, an item prophesied to lead to his defeat. To get it, he attacks the Hokage's office in Konohagakure, easily overpowers many of the village's top ninja, and devastates a large portion of the village with a single, cataclysmic attack. When Naruto and Sakura, who have been transported into this world, intervene, Menma effortlessly defeats them both and kidnaps Sakura to use as a bargaining chip for the scroll. This leads to a final confrontation with Naruto, where his mask is destroyed, revealing his face and true identity. The two battle fiercely, culminating in a clash of their ultimate techniques and their respective Nine-Tails powers. Naruto ultimately defeats Menma, after which Tobi possesses his unconscious body to continue the fight. Once Tobi is driven out, Menma reverts to his original form, his black hair returning to its natural blonde, suggesting he has been freed from the corruption.

Key relationships define Menma's position in the narrative. His parents, Minato and Kushina, are loving and present, though unaware that their son has become a rogue ninja, believing Naruto, who has been mistakenly swapped into their world, to be Menma. In this reality, Hinata Hyuga has a notably bold and assertive personality and harbors a strong romantic interest in Menma. His most critical relationship is with Naruto, his perfect mirror image. Unlike Naruto, who forged bonds to overcome his isolation, Menma succumbed to the hatred of his tailed beast and became isolated by his own power and malice. The alternate world's version of the Akatsuki also opposes him, acting as hired mercenaries for Konoha.

Menma possesses formidable abilities that parallel and often eclipse those of Naruto. As the jinchuriki of the Black Nine-Tails, he has vast reserves of powerful chakra and, unlike Naruto, lacks a restrictive seal, allowing him to access the beast's power with ease. He can fully manifest the Black Nine-Tails and use it like a summon. His signature technique is the Spiralling Ring, a dark, planet-like version of the Rasengan, and its more powerful form, the Great Spiralling Ring, which has destructive power on par with the Almighty Push that leveled Konoha. He is also capable of using a unique summoning technique called Nine Masked Beasts, which calls forth nine masked creatures he can command in battle. He is highly skilled in taijutsu, able to effortlessly defeat multiple opponents. Under Tobi's possession, he even gains the use of a Sharingan in his right eye. Menma's power is such that he was able to defeat other jinchuriki and mortally wound Jiraiya, making him one of the most dangerous threats in his reality.
