Description
Orba Mayer is a clergyman from the fantasy world of Ente Isla in The Devil Is a Part-Timer!, where he serves as one of the six high priests of the Western Continent's Great Law God Church, overseeing diplomacy and missionary work. As a priest he keeps his head shaved, and although he is close to sixty years old, he retains the full strength of his prime, making him a capable combatant as well as a senior church official.

Mayer regards himself as a shrewd strategist, but his plans are shallow and easily seen through; the demon lord Satan dismisses one of his schemes as being on the level of a cheap B-grade movie script. His motivations stem from the contradiction he perceives between church doctrine and the world around him, which drives him to covet divine power for himself. Believing that people's faith can be exploited as a political tool, he secretly resolves to seize control of the church and of Ente Isla by manipulating piety, rather than genuinely serving the faith he ostensibly represents.

In the story, Mayer initially appears among the allies of the hero Emilia, but he is actually a traitor. He engineers Emilia's separation by stranding her in modern Japan, takes her holy sword, and, together with Lucifer, presents it to Heaven to buy himself the status of an angel. He then announces to Ente Isla that Emilia is dead. When he later joins forces with Lucifer and comes to Japan to eliminate both Satan and Emilia, his conspiracy collapses, as the two former enemies cooperate to thwart him and break his ambitions. In the anime, he is finally taken into custody and arrested on robbery charges.

His key relationships are defined by betrayal and expedient alliances. He is the betrayer of Emilia, his former companion, and an untrustworthy partner to Lucifer, while he underestimates the demon lord Satan and Emilia, assuming their rivalry will prevent them from joining forces. His development runs from trusted senior church figure to exposed schemer, as his hunger for godhood and his contempt for his enemies lead him to overreach and ultimately undo him. His notable traits are his political cunning, his enduring combat ability despite his age, and the angelic standing he briefly obtains, none of which can compensate for the recklessness of his ambitions.
