TV-Series
Description
Hibachi is a central character and the explosives specialist within the group of warriors tasked with defending Edo from giant insect creatures known as Mushi. As a young female ninja, her role is defined by her determination to prove herself and her mastery of a unique family fighting style. Coming from a ninja clan that had ceased practicing its art, Hibachi learned her grandfather’s explosive techniques, determined to become the successor of the Chinpou Style. This path is complicated by her grandfather’s reluctance to pass down the techniques to a woman, which only strengthens her resolve to prove her worth and spread the name of his teachings through her work with the Mushibugyo.

Hibachi has a complex and often fiery personality. She is described as stubborn and competitive, with a short temper that can flare up suddenly, but this aggressive exterior hides a more vulnerable and sensitive side. Her personality on the surface is largely defined by her deep admiration for her colleague, Mugai, the strongest warrior of the Magistrate. She maintains a fawning, blushing affection for him because he once saved her life, and this event drives her initial motivation to become stronger. Initially, she is cold and dismissive toward the protagonist, Jinbei Tsukishima, but she gradually becomes a close ally and a key figure in his support system.

As the story progresses, Hibachi undergoes notable development. Her rivalry with Jinbei softens, and she begins to worry about him and show signs of jealousy when he is close to other women, particularly Oharu. While she was not like this with Mugai, she becomes increasingly conscious of Jinbei, taking care of him and playing a crucial role as a heroine in his journey. From the middle of the series, she transitions from seeing him as a mere colleague to a romantic interest, and by the end of the story, she becomes one of his wives, with whom she has a child.

In terms of abilities, Hibachi is a formidable combatant who specializes in explosives and the use of a dagger or kunai. Her primary fighting style is the Chinpou Style passed down from her grandfather, which focuses on the strategic use of small bombs and explosive techniques in combat. In the anime adaptation, she rarely uses her dagger early on but eventually demonstrates skill by combining small bombs with kunai. Two of her most prominent relationships are with Mugai and Jinbei. Mugai is her initial idealized hero and the source of her desire for strength, while Jinbei becomes her true partner, with whom she shares a sympathetic bond after he saves her life, similar to her experience with Mugai.
