Description
Hinako Kujo is a character who appears as a member of the Japanese governmental agency known as JP's, joining the fight against the mysterious invaders called the Septentriones. Before the invasion, she was a dancer living in Osaka, born into a distinguished family that practices traditional Japanese dance. She is the sole daughter of the head of the Kujo family and uses her home city of Osaka as her base of operations throughout the story. As a performer, she is dedicated to studying various styles of dance from around the world, starting with the traditional forms of her own heritage.

Hinako is a passionate individual who holds a firm belief in human decency and possesses a strong sense of justice. She acts as an older sister-type figure to those around her, constantly looking after others and showing a great deal of concern for their well-being. Her caring nature can lead her to be reckless, as she is quick to put herself in harm's way, even to a point that could be described as almost suicidal, when problems arise for the group. Despite her serious dedication to helping others, she has a somewhat ironic personality, refusing to change into a more modest outfit because she feels her current attire has a greater impact.

Her primary motivation is to help people during the crisis. She initially asks the main group to help her become accepted into JP's, believing that joining the organization will give her a greater ability to aid those in need. She cannot stand to remain idle while others are suffering, which drives her to join the front lines of battle against the Septentriones.

In the story of Devil Survivor 2 The Animation, Hinako plays a significant role as an ally. She is first encountered when the main characters arrive in Osaka and joins their party to search for a missing colleague. She is present when her close friend Keita Wakui meets his tragic fate and grieves heavily over his death, which steels her resolve to continue fighting. A key moment for her character comes during the battle against the Septentrione Alioth, where her unique talents become essential to the plan. Because she is an expert dancer, she is chosen to perform a ritual dance to summon the powerful demon Shiva, whose strength is needed to defeat the enemy. Her personal relationships are central to her character. She shares a strong bond with Keita Wakui, as he had previously saved her life by lifting debris off her, which inspired her to join JP's as well. She also acts as a rival to Airi Ban, as the two are both talented individuals in the entertainment field. Their dynamic is built on contrasting viewpoints: Hinako perseveres with her dream of dancing despite the apocalypse, while Airi had previously abandoned her own musical aspirations.

Throughout the anime, Hinako undergoes notable development. After Keita's death, she inherits his demon, Berserker, and uses it to continue the fight, ensuring that his legacy and sacrifice are not forgotten. She suffers a severe injury during the battle with Merak, covering her right eye and left arm with bandages, but she remains determined to help her friends. In a significant moment of emotional support, she comforts the protagonist Hibiki when he breaks down in tears, relieved to see that she survived. Her development ultimately concludes with a heroic sacrifice during the final battle against Benetnasch, where she is mortally wounded while protecting others. After the world is reset by Hibiki's wish, she is shown to have chosen a new path for herself, deciding to leave her family household to travel and test the popularity of her dancing skills before considering taking over the family business.

In combat, Hinako is a capable demon tamer. She initially uses a demon named Lilim, which specializes in shock wave magic attacks. After Keita's death, she gains his demon, Berserker, a powerful physical fighter that wields a sword to cut through large numbers of enemies. As a fighter, her strength lies in her physical abilities and agility, allowing her to hit hard and fast, though she has lower vitality and health, making her more vulnerable to counterattacks.
