Description
Marc Bodt was a cadet of the 104th Cadet Corps who graduated seventh in his class. He was an idealistic and selfless individual, consistently prioritizing the well‑being of the group over his own interests. He aspired to join the Military Police not for safety or privilege but out of a genuine desire to serve the king faithfully. Marc possessed strong leadership qualities and was respected by his peers, who saw him as a natural leader. He had an excellent ability to judge character, most notably recognizing Jean Kirschtein’s hidden potential and encouraging him to embrace his role as a leader. Marc also had a talent for preserving order among the trainees, whether by diffusing arguments or keeping everyone calm during high‑stress situations. Even when frightened, he maintained a composed and rational demeanor.

During the Battle of Trost, Marc commanded his squad and played a key role in Armin Arlert’s plan to reclaim a supply room, helping to keep the group coordinated under fire. He later rescued Jean when his gear malfunctioned and fought alongside the other trainees in the effort to seal Wall Rose. Marc’s death was not a simple battlefield casualty; he was killed after accidentally overhearing Reiner Braun, Bertholdt Hoover, and Annie Leonhart reveal their identities as the Titans responsible for the wall breaches. Unable to let him live, the trio stripped him of his gear and left him to be devoured by a Titan. Marc’s final moments were marked by his continued attempts to reason with them rather than resort to violence.

His death had a profound impact on Jean, motivating him to abandon his earlier selfish ambitions and commit himself fully to the fight against the Titans. In the later stages of the story, Jean’s desire for justice regarding Marc’s death became a key part of his character arc. Marc’s legacy endured through the characters he inspired, particularly Jean, and his story underscored the themes of sacrifice and the harsh realities of war. He was an adept soldier skilled in standard combat, strategic planning, and teamwork, though his greatest strengths were his empathy, level‑headedness, and ability to support those around him.
