Description
Akim Papradon is a significant antagonist in the Blood Lad series, originally created as Artificial Demon No. 9. Before becoming the entity known as Akim Papradon, he was a demon named Pantomime. In that previous life, he served King Wolf Daddy as a minion, tasked with retrieving the king's lover from the human world. During this mission, he was killed by Braz Blood, but his body was subsequently delivered to the scientist Franken Stein for experimental purposes. Using a collection of body parts from various demons, Stein resurrected the slain demon, transforming him into a new, more powerful being and giving him the name Akim Papradon. This process left his body as a grotesque and ever-changing patchwork of different demon parts, often held together by visible stitches.
As a phantom presence, the physical body Akim inhabits is merely a vessel. His true form is a spirit that manipulates his patchwork body through magic, which makes him exceptionally difficult to destroy, as he can continue to control broken or severed parts. He possesses the ability to use spatial magic, which allows him to create portals for teleportation and dimensional travel, a power he used to escape from Franken Stein’s laboratory. Other notable abilities include high-level regeneration, the capacity to mimic the magical abilities of other demons by touching them, and a form of necromancy that lets him possess corpses. As his power grows, he can even deposit his excess magic into other corpses to create devoted underlings, whom he refers to as his children.
Akim Papradon is defined by a single-minded obsession with strength. He considers his own body to be weak and is constantly on a quest to find and acquire the strongest body parts from other demons to enhance himself, believing that great power is a form of beauty. He displays a twisted sense of aesthetics in combat, complimenting opponents on their fighting techniques only if he deems them beautiful, while showing scorn for those he considers slow or ugly. Despite a childish demeanor and immense self-confidence that borders on arrogance, he is also cunning and cruel, finding amusement in the terror and pain he inflicts on others. As the artificial demon created from Pantomime, he retains no memories of his past life, his entire personality now centered on the pursuit of greater power through the assimilation of other demons’ body parts.
In the story, Akim serves as a major threat that drives several characters into action. After escaping from Stein’s laboratory, he begins rampaging through the demon world, hunting demons to harvest their parts. It is revealed that his creator, Franken Stein, had a hidden intention of using Fuyumi Yanagi, a human ghost, to combat this failed experiment. This revelation leads Wolf to make a deal with Stein to defeat Akim in exchange for Fuyumi’s safety. Simultaneously, Braz Blood proposes a similar deal to his brother, Staz, offering to teach him a human resurrection spell if he helps defeat the artificial demon. This sets up a confrontation where Staz, after having his true power unsealed, engages Akim in a major battle. During their fight, Akim derisively dismisses Staz’s attempted energy attack as the move of a third-rate fighter, showcasing his arrogance. Staz ultimately defeats him, but Akim’s parts are then severed and collected by Bell Hydra. He is later arrested by Liz Blood along with Franken Stein, and the two are imprisoned, though Stein continues his work on Akim in a laboratory provided by Braz.
As the series progresses, Akim’s development sees him grow into an even more formidable threat. He eventually becomes the main antagonist, absorbing the immense power of Hellschaft Grimm, the first king of the demon world. This transformation grants him even greater abilities, including flight, large-scale energy projection capable of destroying a mountain, and the power to create numerous undead servants. His relationships are largely defined by utility and manipulation. He is the creation of Franken Stein, who he quickly outgrows and escapes from. He becomes a pawn in Braz Blood’s larger scheme to overthrow the demon world’s king, though his own ambitions far exceed that role. Despite his origins, Akim ultimately seeks to usurp power for himself, viewing other powerful demons, including his creators and potential rivals, only as sources for new body parts or obstacles to be eliminated.
