Description
Isohime is a female yokai from the anime Kamisama Kiss who is known for her cunning nature and long history of operating fraudulent businesses wherever she goes. At over six hundred years old, she has had ample time to perfect her skills in trickery and deceit, always looking for new opportunities to profit at the expense of others using her supernatural talents. Her primary method of survival and enrichment is through constant scheming and shady dealings, making her a memorable trickster figure within the world of gods and spirits.
In terms of appearance, Isohime is frequently depicted with notable green eyes and long green hair. Her most distinctive and dangerous feature, however, is not her physical looks but her mystical ability: she possesses both eyes of clairvoyance. This rare power grants her far-seeing abilities that allow her to observe distant events, perceive things ordinary beings cannot, and anticipate the movements of her targets. She uses this foresight to operate as an effective information broker and con artist, gathering secrets and staying one step ahead of those she intends to deceive. Her clairvoyant eyes are what make her particularly threatening, as she can use them to identify valuable targets and plan her approaches with precision. Some sources also suggest she can use this power to foresee future events.
Isohime´s primary motivation is self-enrichment and the acquisition of power. She holds a notable disdain for land gods but is simultaneously fascinated by their immense power, which fuels her desire to take it for herself. This greed is best demonstrated in her most significant action within the story: an attempt to steal the divine soul of the human-turned-land god, Nanami Momozono. She identified Nanami as a valuable target and sought to separate the young god from her divine power, which would have left Nanami vulnerable and powerless. This scheme was ultimately foiled by Mizuki, Nanami´s loyal snake familiar, who intervened to protect his master and prevent the theft. In another notable incident, she agreed to extract the Dragon King´s eye from within Nanami´s body in exchange for thirty years of Nanami´s life. During this procedure, she simultaneously attempted to steal both the Land God´s mark and the Dragon King´s eye, demonstrating her opportunistic and treacherous nature.
Despite her role as an antagonist and her genuine threat to gods and humans alike, Isohime remains a secondary figure in the overall narrative, serving as a recurring obstacle whose deceptive machinations create tense and complicated situations for the main characters. Her personality is characterized by a playful yet malicious demeanor, often approaching her cons with a peculiar sense of humor and a businesslike attitude that belies her dangerous intent. She is not considered invincible, as her plans have been successfully thwarted, but she continues to linger in the supernatural world, constantly devising new schemes and attracting trouble wherever she goes. Her interactions with other characters are typically framed around her scams and manipulations, with her failed attempt on Nanami´s soul standing as the most prominent example of her villainy.
