Description
Miyako Toudaiji is a classmate and childhood best friend of Maron Kusakabe, the main protagonist of Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne. She lives in the same apartment complex as Maron, directly across the hall. From a young age, Miyako has been close to Maron and shares a deep bond with her.
The daughter of a police detective, Miyako inherits a strong desire to uphold justice and frequently involves herself in efforts to capture the phantom thief known as Kaitou Jeanne. Her motivation for pursuing Jeanne stems from a protective instinct toward Maron. Shortly before the series begins, classmates began to notice similarities between Maron’s appearance and voice and those of Jeanne. To clear Maron’s name and prove she is not the thief, Miyako becomes determined to capture Jeanne herself. She devises various schemes and often dangerous traps in an attempt to expose or apprehend Jeanne, inadvertently causing significant trouble for Maron’s missions.
Miyako is characterized by her energetic and stubborn personality. She has a quick temper and does not easily back down from her goals, which sometimes makes her reckless. Despite her fierce exterior, she is genuinely loyal and cares deeply for her friends.
In the anime adaptation, Miyako remains unaware that Maron is Jeanne until late in the story, when Maron is forced to transform in front of her. This revelation deeply shocks and hurts her, and the emotional pain is exploited by the fallen angel Finn, who uses Miyako to attack Maron. Maron eventually breaks the influence and awakens Miyako, leading to a reconciliation. In contrast, in the original manga, Miyako reveals that she knew Maron was Jeanne from the beginning and deliberately acted as a decoy, reasoning that if Maron were caught, she could claim it was a mistake.
Romantically, Miyako develops strong feelings for their mutual classmate Chiaki Nagoya, but she eventually accepts that Chiaki’s heart belongs to Maron and steps aside. Toward the conclusion of the series, she forms a relationship with Yamato Minazuki. In the manga, the two marry and have a son named Shinji, who is later revealed to be the reincarnation of the character Access.
Miyako does not possess any supernatural abilities. Her primary assets are her determination, resourcefulness, and knowledge of police procedures inherited from her father. Her role in the story is that of a close friend and occasional obstacle who gradually learns the truth about Maron’s double life and matures into a more understanding and supportive ally.
