Description
Miyako Todaiji is a classmate and lifelong best friend of Maron Kusakabe, the protagonist who secretly transforms into the phantom thief Jeanne. She lives in the same apartment complex directly across from Maron, reinforcing their close proximity and daily interactions. Miyako is the daughter of a police detective, and she eagerly assists her father in his efforts to capture the elusive Kaitou Jeanne, often taking on an almost leadership role in stakeout operations.

Energetic and cute in appearance, Miyako has a quick temper and a stubborn streak. She becomes deeply frustrated whenever Jeanne evades capture, and she frequently devises elaborate traps and schemes in an attempt to corner the thief. Her primary motivation is to prove that Maron is not Jeanne; several weeks before the story begins, classmates had begun to suspect that Maron's appearance and mannerisms matched those of the thief, and Miyako wants to clear her friend's name by capturing the real culprit. In the anime adaptation, Miyako remains unaware that Maron and Jeanne are the same person until late in the series, and the revelation hurts her deeply. In the manga, by contrast, she claims to have known from the beginning and worked to catch Jeanne so that if Maron were ever exposed, Miyako could claim it was all a mistake.

Miyako has an unrequited romantic interest in Chiaki Nagoya, a new classmate who also lives in their building. She eventually realizes that Chiaki is in love with Maron and steps aside. Later in the story, Miyako develops a relationship with Yamato Minazuki; in the manga they marry and have a son named Shinji. Her role in the narrative is that of a well-meaning obstacle who unintentionally complicates Maron's secret mission, but she also serves as a loyal friend who ultimately supports Maron when the truth comes out.

Over the course of the series, Miyako's attitude toward Jeanne shifts from outright hostility to acceptance. In the anime, she is shocked when she finally sees Maron transform, and the emotional pain allows the demon Finn to briefly manipulate her, but Maron is able to wake her. Notable abilities include her resourcefulness in setting traps and her determination to follow in her father's footsteps as a detective, though she possesses no supernatural powers.
