Description
Nae Tennouji is a character who first appeared as a child in the science fiction series Steins;Gate and later returns as an adult in Robotics;Notes. In Robotics;Notes, set on the island of Tanegashima in 2019, she works as an engineer and scout for the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). She recruits the Robot Research Club of Central Tanegashima High School to participate in JAXA's Robotics Support Project, helping them build giant robots for the Tokyo 2020 Expo.
Nae is outwardly friendly, cheerful, and almost always in a good mood. She quickly befriends the club members and behaves with a polite, lively, and at times playful demeanor. Despite her sunny exterior, others occasionally sense a deeper, more serious quality behind her eyes, suggesting a hidden resolve. She is also highly skilled in martial arts, capable of subduing trained operatives, and possesses a strong aptitude for robotics and engineering. Additionally, she is an exceptional player of the fighting game Kill-Ballad, having been one of the best players in Akihabara under the nickname "Flat-Out Princess."
Her primary motivation in Robotics;Notes is to support the club's efforts while secretly working against the global conspiracy known as the Committee of 300. She is part of a resistance group that opposes the Committee's plan to trigger a catastrophic solar flare. Her role in the story becomes crucial when she reveals her true allegiance to the club and provides them with critical information and a code capable of deleting the digital consciousness of the antagonist Kou Kimijima. During the climax, she helps neutralize the Committee's commandos and takes control of the launch systems to abort the rocket carrying the solar flare device, directly thwarting the conspiracy.
Key relationships include her father, Yuugo Tennouji, who raised her in Akihabara and ran a television repair shop. In Robotics;Notes, she interacts primarily with Kaito Yashio and Akiho Senomiya, the leaders of the Robot Research Club. She shares a brief, ambiguous date with Kaito but ultimately turns him down, sensing he is using her as a substitute for another person. She also works closely with fellow agent Toshiyuki Sawada. Over the course of the story, she develops from a seemingly jovial JAXA representative into a decisive and capable operative who risks her safety to protect the club and the world. Her development highlights her loyalty, competence, and willingness to step out of a supportive role into direct action.
