Description
Esidisi is a major antagonist from the second part of the anime JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, known as Battle Tendency. He is a member of the Pillar Men, an ancient and powerful race of humanoid beings who have lived for tens of thousands of years. With a name derived from the rock band AC/DC, Esidisi is the devoted right-hand man and closest ally to the leader of the Pillar Men, Kars. Of the few survivors of their clan's near-extinction, Esidisi was one of the only members who did not oppose Kars's extreme ideals, and he helped Kars eradicate the rest of their people, saving only two infants who would grow to become their warrior subordinates, Wamuu and Santana.

In terms of personality, Esidisi is a complex and volatile figure. Like his kin, he is supremely confident and views humans as vastly inferior beings. He is typically calm, affable, and analytical, never losing sight of his primary goal: obtaining the Red Stone of Aja for Kars. However, this composed demeanor masks a frighteningly dangerous temper. When his pride is wounded or he is outwitted, Esidisi does not simply grow angry; he has a unique coping mechanism where he bursts into dramatic, startling tears and throws a tantrum. This emotional breakdown is not a sign of weakness but a calculated method to release his murderous rage and restore his mental clarity, often serving to unsettle his opponents. Beyond his emotional outbursts, Esidisi is a brilliant master strategist with a deep understanding of tactics, having traveled to China and studied Sun Tzu's The Art of War, which he quotes during battle. His cunning nature is so pronounced that he is known for being able to see through deception and counter schemes, once famously turning Joseph Joestar's signature mind-reading trick back on him.

Esidisi's motivations are almost entirely aligned with those of his master, Kars. He is absolutely loyal, a bond that has lasted for over ten thousand years. His sole driving purpose is to help Kars acquire the flawless Super Aja, a red stone that would allow the Pillar Men to evolve into Ultimate Beings immune to their fatal weakness to sunlight. This devotion is so absolute that Joseph Joestar notes Esidisi is willing to sacrifice his pride and degrade himself to ensure Kars's success. His role in the story is as a primary obstacle for the protagonist Joseph Joestar. After awakening from a 2,000-year hibernation beneath the Roman Colosseum, Esidisi's actions drive the plot forward. He and Wamuu force Joseph into a deadly deadline by implanting poison rings in his throat and heart, giving the hero thirty-three days to become strong enough to defeat them and retrieve the antidotes. Esidisi serves as the first major Pillar Man opponent Joseph must overcome in a true test of his training.

His key relationship is unquestionably with Kars, whom he serves as the second-in-command. Unlike the honorable warrior Wamuu, who respects strength and fair combat, Esidisi operates with a more pragmatic and ruthless cunning. He treats Wamuu with a degree of seniority, once scolding the younger warrior for an instinctive slight against Kars. His central dynamic is with Joseph Joestar, whom he initially dismisses but grows to respect as a worthy adversary, creating a conflict defined by outlandish tricks and counter-tricks rather than just brute force.

Esidisi's development in the story is one of a relentless pursuer who refuses to accept defeat, even after his physical destruction. He first demonstrates his power by easily killing Joseph's Ripple master, Loggins, and then engaging Joseph in a ferocious battle on Air Supplena Island. During this fight, he showcases his signature ability, Heat Control Mode, also known as the Flame Mode or Erratic Blaze King. This technique allows him to superheat his own blood to an incredible 500 degrees Celsius, which he can then extend from his body through needle-like blood vessels to inject into his foes, burning them from the inside out. He also displays the Pillar Men's power of body manipulation, grafting Loggins's severed arm onto his own stump after Joseph cuts it off. Despite Joseph managing to crumble his body with the Ripple, Esidisi's consciousness survives within his brain and nervous system.

In his final act of defiance, this disembodied brain latches onto Joseph and later possesses the body of the innocent Suzi Q, Lisa Lisa's handmaiden. Using her as a host, he successfully steals the Red Stone of Aja and mails it to Kars before attempting to turn Suzi Q into a living "boiling blood bomb" to kill Joseph and Caesar Zeppeli. This final desperate ploy demonstrates his unwavering dedication to his mission above all else. He is ultimately defeated when Joseph and Caesar use a collaborative Ripple attack to purge him from Suzi Q without harming her, and his exposed nervous system is destroyed by sunlight. Even after his death, Joseph acknowledges Esidisi's incredible willpower and the earnest, if monstrous, way he lived his life for his beliefs.
