OVA
Description
Ghost Girl is a prominent figure in the OVA series Gate Keepers 21, where she serves as a mysterious and powerful antagonist. She is also featured in the prequel novel Gate Keepers 1985: Between Two Times. Her true nature is that of a residual consciousness, the lingering will of a former Gate Keeper who possessed the rare power of Disappearance.

In appearance, Ghost Girl is a young girl with golden hair and red eyes. She wears a long, thin, semi-transparent scarf and a matching dress. She is never without a crystal ball that contains a human skull, which she treats with great care and uses as the focus for her attacks. This skull is a crucial relic, it is her own skull, the last physical anchor for her existence in the world.

Her personality is defined by a deep-seated hatred for humanity, particularly for people she perceives as being driven by selfish desires and lacking basic manners. This misanthropy is born from her own past as a Gate Keeper who despised the same qualities in others and in herself. Having lost her physical body due to her amplified powers, she became a named Invader and allied herself with them, all while pursuing two primary goals: to bring about the world's disappearance and to find other girls who share her self-loathing nature.

Ghost Girl's role in the story is that of the effective leader of the Invader forces in the OVA, designated as a high-level threat with the identification code S-07P. She is initially a figure of great mystery, as her ability to nullify Gate attacks makes her immune to the primary weapon of the Earth Defense forces. Her motivation drives the plot when she seeks out and manipulates events to connect with Ayane Isuzu, a Gate Keeper whose cynical and self-hating personality she recognizes as a kindred spirit. Her scheme involves absorbing the Invaders known as the Mechanical General and Demon Count into a massive crystal to cause a catastrophic Invader outbreak in Tokyo.

Her key relationships are with two characters. She first approaches Fuyuno Kujo, another isolated Gate Keeper, but is rejected. Her primary fixation becomes Ayane Isuzu, whom she believes is exactly like herself. Ghost Girl seeks to create a world where only she and Ayane can exist together. In their final confrontation on the Odaiba waterfront, Ghost Girl's development reaches its climax. Ayane acknowledges that they may indeed be similar, but refuses to become her friend, stating, A person who hates themself must not seek a friend who is the same. Heartbroken, Ayane destroys the crystal containing her skull. As she desperately gathers the fragments and begins to fade away, Ghost Girl despairs, crying, You weren't me, after all.

Her notable abilities are directly tied to her origin. As an Invader, she can withstand and nullify Gate abilities because her power as a Disappearance Gate Keeper causes the very concept of Gates to recognize her as human. However, her most spectacular and defining ability manifests at the moment of her apparent death. Consumed by despair and rage, she uses the last of her strength to invert her power. Her Disappearance Gate is reversed into a Restoration Gate. With a final laugh, she activates it, causing everything and everyone who had been turned into crystals or destroyed by the Invaders throughout the series to be returned to normal, as if nothing had ever happened. A post-story drama CD included with the final DVD volume shows that she did not truly vanish, as she is later seen enjoying a school festival alongside other characters.
