TV-Series
Description
Andrew Gilbert Mills, known by his in-game username Agil, is a prominent supporting character. He is an African-American man of large and muscular build, completely bald with a brown goatee. His physical presence is imposing but is consistently offset by his calm and dependable demeanor. In the real world, he is the owner and operator of the Dicey Cafe, a small coffee shop and bar located in the Okachimachi district of Tokyo, which becomes an important gathering place for survivors of the SAO incident.

His background reveals a man deeply rooted in both his heritage and his adopted home. Although his parents took a liking to Japan, making him ethnically African-American, he was born and raised in Japan, considering himself a true Edo native. Before the events of the series, he was 25 years old when he opened his cafe, where he eventually met his wife, Kathy, who was a customer. He is one of the ten thousand players who purchased the NerveGear and logged into the death game of Sword Art Online on its launch day, having won the right to play in a game against his wife when they were only able to secure one copy of the game.

In terms of personality, Andrew is the embodiment of reliability and quiet strength. He is consistently portrayed as a friendly, helpful, and level-headed individual who looks out for others without seeking recognition. In the chaotic early days of SAO, he was one of the few players to publicly defend the beta testers from accusations of being selfish and causing the mass death of players, demonstrating his strong sense of justice and fairness. He gives the impression of a shrewd businessman focused on profit, but he secretly uses his earnings to help lower-level and mid-level players progress through the game's floors. He is a man of few but meaningful words, and his calm presence makes him a natural anchor for the younger, more impulsive members of the main group.

His primary motivation is the well-being of his community, both inside and outside of virtual worlds. Inside SAO, his goal was not merely to survive but to contribute to the clearing effort while supporting those who could not keep up with the front lines. Upon returning to the real world, his motivation shifts to maintaining the Dicey Cafe as a sanctuary for other survivors and using his resources to help his friends. He is driven by a sense of responsibility and loyalty, feeling a deep regret for not having been able to do more to prevent Kirito from facing the final duel alone, a failure he carries with him.

Within the story, Andrew serves a dual role as both a vital supporter and a capable front-line fighter. In SAO, he is a merchant who owns a shop on the 50th floor of Aincrad, named Algade. His store operates under the motto "We buy cheap and sell cheap," and he uses his commercial network to gather information and supplies. However, he is also a veteran axe-wielder and a member of the攻略組 (Kōryaku-gumi), the elite raiding force. He participates in major boss battles, including the first-floor boss and the critical 75th-floor boss. After SAO is cleared, his cafe becomes the de facto headquarters for Kirito's friend group, where plans are made, information is shared, and reunions are held. He plays a key role in providing Kirito with the crucial clue that Asuna was being held in ALfheim Online, effectively launching the next major arc of the story.

His key relationships center on his unwavering friendship with Kirito and his loving marriage to his wife, Kathy. He acts as a big brother figure to Kirito, offering him a place to stay when he was being publicly shamed as a "Beater" and providing sage advice and unwavering support in battle. He is one of the few people Kirito trusts implicitly. His relationship with his wife is a testament to his character; during his two-year imprisonment in SAO, Kathy single-handedly kept the Dicey Cafe from closing, and he later reunites with her in virtual worlds as an equal partner. He also shares a close bond with other survivors like Klein, acting as a fellow leader and voice of reason.

Throughout the series, Andrew's development is more about deepening his established role than undergoing a dramatic personal change. He transitions from a merchant-warrior in Aincrad to a key organizer in the real world, and then adapts to new virtual environments like ALfheim Online and the Underworld. In ALfheim Online, he transfers his avatar to a Gnome, a race known for its durability and earth magic, and continues to fight alongside his friends. His development is most visible in his expanding role as a guardian and guide for the next generation of players, always prioritizing the safety of his community over personal glory.

Regarding his notable abilities, Andrew is a highly skilled player who balances combat prowess with economic strategy. In SAO, his primary weapon is a massive two-handed battle axe, which he wields with devastating power as a front-line damage dealer. His fighting style is likely straightforward and heavy-hitting, relying on brute force and high defense. As a merchant, his unique ability lies in his negotiation skills, market knowledge, and network of contacts, which are just as valuable as his combat skills. In later games like ALfheim Online, his abilities evolve to include flight and the use of earth-based magic, complementing his existing preference for heavy, defensive combat.
