TV-Series
Description
Hikaru Kageyama is a supporting character introduced in the Inazuma Eleven GO series as a forward for the Raimon soccer team. He is the nephew of Kageyama Reiji, a notorious figure from the original Inazuma Eleven series who was known for his antagonistic actions against Raimon in the past. This family connection is the most significant aspect of his background. Hikaru initially hesitates to reveal his full surname when he first tries to join the Raimon soccer club because he is aware of the pain his uncle caused the team. He fears that the members, including the coach Endou Mamoru, would reject him based on his family name. However, upon learning of his love for soccer, Endou and the others welcome him warmly, judging him on his own merit rather than the sins of his relative.
In terms of personality, Hikaru is an earnest, cheerful, and positive boy who possesses a budding sense for soccer. He is portrayed as somewhat naive and innocent, which makes him easy to trick, as demonstrated when his teammate Kariya Masaki plays a prank on him during training. Despite this, Hikaru has a kind and forgiving heart and does not hold grudges. He is a hardworking individual who, despite being a beginner with very little playing experience, is incredibly fast at learning new skills. He shows a natural aptitude for the sport, able to replicate powerful shots and dribbling techniques simply by watching his more experienced teammates even for a few seconds. This rapid improvement is a key trait that allows him to become a valuable member of the team. He is also shown to be somewhat shy and anxious, often worrying about what others think of him, and he can get flustered easily.
Hikaru's role in the story begins as a newcomer who is eager to prove himself. His first major contribution comes during a match against Hakuren, where he demonstrates his tactical understanding by proposing a modification to the team's tactic, Double Wing. After being substituted into the game, he successfully helps execute the tactic and scores the first goal for Raimon with a powerful and fast shot. This debut performance establishes him as a capable player who can rise to the occasion. He often serves as a substitute player, coming off the bench to replace injured or struggling teammates, and consistently contributes to the team's success by scoring goals or making key plays. As the series progresses into Inazuma Eleven GO 2: Chrono Stone, Hikaru continues to be a part of the team's adventures, traveling through different time periods. In the France era, he is shocked by the harsh realities of war, and during the Bakumatsu era, he scores a goal with his hissatsu technique Extend Zone. He is also chosen to be a member of El Dorado Team 03 for the Ragnarok Tournament.
Hikaru has several key relationships within the team. He is shown to be close to the protagonist Matsukaze Tenma and the goalkeeper Shinsuke Nishizono, as well as the defender Amagi Daichi. However, he is depicted as being closest to Kariya Masaki, despite Kariya's initial teasing. He also forms a bond with Amagi, as they share a similar past that helps them understand each other. His relationship with his uncle's legacy is a recurring theme, but the team's acceptance helps him move past his initial shame and embrace his own love for soccer.
Throughout his development, Hikaru transforms from a shy and insecure boy burdened by his family name into a confident and integral member of the Raimon Eleven. His growth is directly tied to his increasing skills on the field. He starts as a clumsy beginner who cannot dribble properly and eventually becomes a reliable forward capable of using advanced techniques and holding his own against powerful opponents. In the later series Inazuma Eleven GO Galaxy, though he is not selected to be a member of the main representative team Inazuma Japan, he remains a part of the Raimon team and has a practice match with the new team, demonstrating that he continues to play and improve. Hikaru is defined by his remarkable talent for rapid learning, his kind and earnest nature, and his courage to step out of his family's shadow to forge his own path as a soccer player. His notable abilities include his powerful shooting technique Extend Zone, which he uses effectively in the air and on the ground, and his key role in completing the Double Wing tactic.
