TV-Series
Description
Akane Yamana is a second-year student at Raimon Junior High and one of the three new managers who join the Raimon soccer club. She is known for her long chestnut hair, which is styled into two plaits, and her lavender-colored eyes. Her appearance is distinguished by a longer skirt that reaches below her knees, which she wears with purple pantyhose and brown-black Mary Jane shoes. She is rarely seen without her pink camera, an item that has become a signature part of her character.
Her personality is generally kind, friendly, and peaceful. She is most often seen in a happy and cheerful mood, and she has a notably soft voice, speaking only occasionally. When she does speak, she often offers words of wisdom. Akane is famously a huge fan of the Raimon captain, Shindou Takuto, whom she addresses with the honorific "-sama," indicating great respect and admiration. She has a persistent habit of taking numerous photographs, with a clear preference for taking pictures of Shindou, often without him seeming to notice. Small orange or yellow flowers are sometimes illustrated appearing around her when she is in a particularly good mood, most notably when she is taking pictures.
Akane's primary role in the story is as a team manager for Raimon, a position she assumes early on alongside Sorano Aoi and Seto Midori. In this capacity, she is a helpful and supportive presence for the team members, including Tenma and the others, and gets along well with everyone. Her role expands in the subsequent Chrono Stone arc, where her personal interest in science fiction becomes a significant asset. She is revealed to be a fan of the genre and is the only member of the club who initially understands the complex explanations about time travel and parallel worlds provided by characters like Clark Wonderbot and Dr. Crossword Arno. Her quick comprehension and ability to simplify these concepts for her teammates demonstrate a notable level of intelligence. During the time-traveling journey, her excitement is tempered by the disappointment that her camera does not function during the jumps. In the King Arthur era, she is chosen to play the role of the Lady of the Lake, helping to restore the Holy Sword Excalibur.
Her key relationship is undoubtedly with Shindou Takuto, whom she idolizes. Her devotion to him is the most prominent aspect of her interactions, though she never calls his name directly in front of him. She shows jealousy when another character gives Shindou a lunch box and is visibly worried when he is injured. Beyond her fixation on the captain, she forms strong bonds with her fellow managers, Aoi and Midori. She is shown to be a gentle person who dislikes violence, once attempting to stop Midori from punching another student. She also uses her camera to help the team in practical ways, such as when Kidou Yuuto instructs her to take a video of an opposing team's special stadium so a strategy can be devised.
Over the course of the series, Akane develops from a somewhat enigmatic and quietly observant fan into a more actively helpful and integral part of the team's support system. While her admiration for Shindou remains constant, she becomes more involved in the team's challenges, especially during the time-travel arc where her unique knowledge comes to the forefront. In the movie, her camera plays a crucial role in a prison escape, highlighting her resourcefulness. Her notable abilities are not related to soccer playing skills but rather to her sharp observational skills through photography, her talent for drawing as shown in the video games, and her intellectual ability to grasp complex scientific theories that baffle her peers. Her quick thinking and intelligence are praised by the future scientist Dr. Crossword Arno.
