Description
Chihiro Miyoshi is a significant supporting character in the anime Tamayura - Hitotose, best known as the childhood best friend of the main protagonist, Fuu Sawatari. The two attended elementary and middle school together in the city of Shioiri, forming a close bond during a time when both found it difficult to make friends. Their friendship began when Fuu called out to Chihiro, and from that point on, Chihiro gave Fuu the affectionate nickname of "Fuu-nyon".
Personality-wise, Chihiro is defined by her sensitive and emotional nature. She is often described as a "crybaby," being easily moved to tears during heartfelt or stressful situations. Despite this tendency, she possesses a deeply caring and earnest disposition, particularly when it comes to protecting Fuu from painful memories, such as those related to the death of Fuu's father. When Fuu decides to move back to the scenic town of Takehara for high school, Chihiro is supportive but must come to terms with this major change. This farewell acts as a pivotal moment for her character; she resolves to become "more aggressive" and to suppress her tears, marking her first step toward greater emotional resilience.
Chihiro’s role in the story is that of an anchor to Fuu’s past, providing context for Fuu's life before moving to Takehara. She makes a key appearance in the series when she visits Fuu in Takehara, where she meets and quickly becomes friends with Fuu's new circle of friends, including Kaoru, Maon, and Norie. Through this visit, she overcomes her fear that Fuu might have replaced her, showing her personal growth.
One of Chihiro's most notable abilities is her talent for crafting. She is skilled at making dolls and stuffed animals. This creative hobby is a primary way she expresses her affection for her friends. For Fuu, she handcrafted a personalized photo album and, most significantly, a distinctive cat-shaped case for Fuu's treasured Rollei 35S camera, which had belonged to Fuu's late father. Her creations are so imaginative that she even designed an original doll named "Pottenon," which serves as an alter-ego for Fuu.
Chihiro’s key relationship is, of course, with Fuu, but she also shares a forgotten early connection with the other main characters. It is revealed that she had unknowingly met Kaoru, Maon, and Norie once before, during a kindergarten trip years prior to the events of the main story. As the series progresses, Chihiro continues to develop, moving beyond her role as simply the tearful best friend. Inspired by Fuu’s courage, she becomes more assertive in her own life, and it is eventually mentioned that after entering university, she decides to go abroad to study.
