TV-Series
Description
Canary is an apprentice butler for the Zoldyck Family, the infamous assassins, and serves as one of the guards for their sprawling estate. Her origins lie in Meteor City, a remote and lawless junkyard inhabited by outcasts and individuals who do not officially exist in any records, a place connected to figures like the Phantom Troupe. This harsh environment meant she had to be a capable fighter from a very young age, and it is noted that her existence is not recorded in any database, making information about her past difficult to obtain.

In terms of personality, Canary initially presents herself as a cold and ruthless guardian, strictly adhering to her orders to expel trespassers by force without hesitation. However, this demeanor is a mask for her true nature. As the protagonist Gon observes, she possesses a gentle heart and struggles to suppress her emotions. Her loyalty, particularly to Killua Zoldyck, is her strongest driving force. Killua, who was raised without friends, was once kind to her and wished for them to be friends, a gesture she declined due to their difference in station but never forgot. This deep affection for her young master causes her to bend or break the family's strict rules on multiple occasions. She is not heartless but a compassionate individual trapped by the duties of her role, and she is deeply moved by the determination of anyone trying to help Killua.

Canary's primary role in the story occurs during the Zoldyck Family arc, where she acts as the first human obstacle for Gon, Leorio, and Kurapika as they attempt to rescue Killua from his home. Stationed along the path to the mansion, she repeatedly strikes Gon with her cane to drive him back, yet his unwavering persistence eventually breaks through her professional exterior. She later aids the group by directing them to a phone to contact the family head, Zeno Zoldyck. Canary returns later in the series during the 13th Hunter Chairman Election arc, where she serves as part of Killua's protective detail. She demonstrates her continued loyalty by piloting a vehicle and riding a motorcycle transformation of her fellow butler, Tsubone, to help Killua and his sister Alluka evade the manipulative control of his older brother, Illumi.

Her key relationships define much of her character development. Her bond with Killua is central, as her loyalty to him often overrides her duty to the Zoldyck family as a whole. Her relationship with Gon is also significant, as his refusal to fight her and his pure determination to save his friend force her to confront her own suppressed desires and ultimately side with the intruders. She also interacts with her fellow butlers, sharing a professional but meaningful relationship with the senior butler Gotoh, and a somewhat contentious yet friendly dynamic with Amane, Tsubone's granddaughter.

Canary is a formidable fighter, though the full extent of her abilities is never explicitly showcased in a major battle. Her strength is established through her backstory, where it is revealed that at only ten years old, she single-handedly defeated a Blacklist Hunter and one hundred of his men who were attempting to breach the Zoldyck estate, accomplishing this feat in mere minutes without showing signs of strain. She is a quick learner with a prodigious talent for combat. She can replicate complex assassination techniques after seeing them only once. For instance, she mastered the Rhythm Echo, a technique that creates afterimages to confuse opponents, and the Shadow Step after minimal exposure, even though she was not formally aware of the technique's name. Her weapon of choice is a durable rod or cane which she wields with great precision and force.

Regarding Nen, the life energy used for supernatural abilities, Canary's specific powers are not detailed, as she never engages in a Nen-based fight in the series. However, it is confirmed that she is capable of using it. During the Election arc, she successfully pilots Tsubone, who has transformed into a motorcycle, which requires the rider to fuel the vehicle with their own aura, a clear demonstration of Nen manipulation. This implies that she has received training in Nen, consistent with her high-ranking position serving the Zoldyck family.
