Description
Bara is a character from the Greed Island arc, serving as a member of the Bomber group alongside Genthru and Sub. He is a player in the game who, like his teammates, was hired by the wealthy Battera to help clear the game and obtain its unique cards. Not much is known about his life before entering Greed Island, but his presence in Battera's mansion both before and after the game implies he was recruited sometime prior to the protagonists Gon and Killua.
In terms of appearance, Bara is a tall and muscular man, standing at 176 centimeters. He has long, straight, purple hair that is parted in the middle. The most distinctive feature of his appearance is a tattoo resembling a trident located on his forehead.
Bara's personality aligns with the ruthless nature of the Bomber group, as he is cold and brutal when pursuing his objectives. He is quick to resort to violence, as shown when he punched a member of Nickes' Alliance for not handing over a Leave card quickly enough. He is also the most volatile and hotheaded member of the group. This impulsiveness leads him to speak before thinking and act without a plan, making him the least reflective of the three. Despite his aggressive and brash exterior, he cares deeply about his teammates, reacting with immediate anger when he believed one of Tsezguerra's allies attempted to kill Sub. During his fight with Biscuit Krueger, he also displayed a degree of overconfidence, laughing while enduring her attacks because he underestimated her true strength.
Bara's primary role in the story is as an antagonist during the Greed Island arc. He acts as the primary fighter and enforcer for the Bomber group, engaging in direct combat while Genthru uses his Countdown ability and Sub provides support. When Gon and his friends corner the Bombers for a final confrontation, Bara separates from the group to fight Biscuit one-on-one. This battle is his most significant moment, showcasing his physical power and endurance against a far superior opponent. After being brutally defeated, he is left near death but is later healed by the card Angel's Breath at Genthru's request, which Gon honors.
His key relationships are exclusively with his Bomber teammates, Genthru and Sub. The three function as a cohesive and effective unit. They can trigger the simultaneous explosion of Genthru's time bombs by putting their thumbs together and saying a keyword in unison. While Bara is the muscle of the group, he respects and follows Genthru's leadership.
Bara is a physically powerful and capable fighter. He possesses a high degree of skill in hand-to-hand combat, taking little damage from Biscuit's blows while she was in her child form and even managing to land a hit that knocked her down. He also has impressive reflexes, as demonstrated when he caught an arrow mid-flight in the dark. His most notable trait is his immense endurance and durability. He survived a direct punch to the face from Biscuit after she transformed into her huge, muscular true form. Biscuit herself acknowledged his strength, noting that she typically kills her opponents with a single blow of that magnitude, yet Bara remained alive.
Regarding Nen, Bara appears to be a very capable Enhancement user, using aura to boost his physical attack and defense to superhuman levels to withstand such a devastating attack. He is also fairly skilled at using Zetsu, the technique to conceal one's presence, allowing him and his team to ambush Tsezguerra's group without being sensed. While some sources speculate he might be an Emitter or Manipulator based on the sound of his life energy alongside Sub, his exact Nen type and any specific advanced abilities remain a mystery.
Throughout his limited screen time, Bara undergoes little character development, remaining a determined antagonist focused on winning the game. His primary development is physical, as he experiences a crushing defeat that forces the Bombers to concede, but his personality or motivations do not change as a result.
