Description
Dalzollene is the leader of the bodyguards for Neon Nostrade, the daughter of the Nostrade family mafia boss. As the head of this security detail, he serves as Kurapika's direct superior for a period. Dalzollene cuts an imposing figure, with a robust and muscular build, a square haircut, and distinctive marks beneath his eyes that resemble shark gills, which contributes to his intimidating reputation.

In terms of personality, Dalzollene is characterized by his straightforward and action-oriented nature. He is driven by a strong desire for recognition and is known for his impetuous and direct approach. His security philosophy is notably extreme; he denies preconceptions about potential enemies and operates on the principle that anyone who approaches his charge should be treated as a hostile threat. This leads him to adopt a strategy focused primarily on defense and direct interception, though a significant flaw in his approach is a tendency to neglect proactive information gathering and preventive measures. He is also a strict and harsh leader, as demonstrated when he dealt with a colleague who had been manipulated by the enemy, displaying the body as a warning to others and holding a recruitment test for replacements in its presence. Despite his tough exterior and professional frustrations with Neon's capricious and spoiled behavior, he remains a dedicated protector.

Within the story during the Yorknew City arc, Dalzollene is placed in charge of protecting Neon at the underground auction. He is responsible for overseeing the hiring of new bodyguards, including Kurapika, whom he recognizes as capable and comes to trust, even granting him special permissions. Dalzollene's role puts him in direct conflict with the Phantom Troupe. He witnesses firsthand the overwhelming physical power of Uvogin, who effortlessly defeats mafia soldiers and the Shadow Beasts, an encounter that leaves him astonished. Later, after Kurapika successfully captures Uvogin, Dalzollene takes charge of the prisoner with the intention of handing him over to the mafia community.

His key relationships are primarily professional. He is loyal to Light Nostrade but often frustrated by the young Neon's tantrums. He shows a degree of trust and respect for Kurapika's abilities, forming a significant bond as Kurapika's first superior in the Nostrade family. His death comes when he fails to see through a deception; the people he believes to be mafia representatives arriving to take custody of Uvogin are, in fact, members of the Phantom Troupe in disguise. He is swiftly killed by Phinks, who strikes him from behind with a lethal hand chop.

Regarding his development and abilities, Dalzollene's physical resilience is notable. It is mentioned by Light Nostrade that his body is so well-trained with Nen that he could withstand ten gunshots without serious injury. His weapon of choice is a sword, which he can enhance with his Nen. However, his exact Nen ability is never explicitly shown in the story, though his combat style and physical nature suggest he is likely an Enhancer. His limitations are made clear when his sword breaks against Uvogin's impenetrable body without causing any effective damage. There are notable differences in his portrayal between the first and second anime adaptations. In the 1999 version, his character is depicted as more calculating and calm, he survives long enough to warn his comrades after being struck, and his sword is depicted with special runes. In the second adaptation, his portrayal stays closer to the original manga, where he is killed almost instantly. Despite his relatively short appearance, Dalzollene's death serves as a crucial event that forces Kurapika to assume the role of leader and directly engage with the Phantom Troupe.
