TV-Series
Description
Neferpitou, often called Pitou, is a cat-type Chimera Ant who was the firstborn of the three Royal Guards serving the Chimera Ant King Meruem. They have the appearance of a humanoid cat with wavy white hair, cat-like ears, and a tail covered in yellow and white fur. Their physical form combines human and feline genetics, granting them extraordinary speed, strength, and agility. Their eyes are red, and they typically speak with a playful, cat-like verbal tic, often ending sentences with nya. Their gender is not explicitly stated in the original material.

Neferpitou is a Specialist Nen user, a rare category that allows abilities not fitting neatly into the standard six Nen types. Their most significant ability is Doctor Blythe, a healing and repair technique manifested as a large marionette-like construct. It can surgically reattach limbs, heal internal injuries, and even reconstruct damaged bodies. However, while Doctor Blythe is active, Neferpitou must remain stationary and is completely vulnerable. This ability was originally developed after their fight with Kite, driven by a desire to prolong combat and enjoyment. Another ability is Terpsichora, a combat enhancement technique that greatly amplifies Neferpitou's physical capabilities, allowing them to move and attack with devastating speed and power. They also possess a highly refined En, an aura field that extends over several kilometers, enabling them to detect and distinguish individuals and their power levels in real time. This En can also be shaped into an amoeba-like form for more precise monitoring. Additionally, they can create and control puppet-like Nen constructs, which they have used to manipulate the bodies of the dead, including animating Kite's corpse for training purposes.

Personality-wise, Neferpitou initially appears as a curious, playful, and sadistic creature. They treat combat as a game and show little regard for life or suffering, killing and maiming without remorse. This is exemplified when they kill Kite, a skilled Hunter, with ease, treating it as a test of strength. They are also highly intelligent, quickly learning to manipulate human brains for information and developing complex Nen abilities shortly after birth. Despite their cruelty, their core motivation is absolute loyalty to King Meruem. This devotion is not born from programming but from genuine, instinctual reverence. They are willing to sacrifice any personal pleasure or opportunity for combat to fulfill their duty as a Royal Guard.

In the story, Neferpitou plays a pivotal role in the Chimera Ant arc. Their killing of Kite, who is a mentor figure to the protagonist Gon Freecss, sets off a chain of events that drives Gon to extreme measures. They serve as a primary antagonist, guarding the king and overseeing operations in East Gorteau, including using puppets to control the populace and conducting selection processes. Their presence forces the Hunter Association to acknowledge the immense threat of the Chimera Ants. They are also central to the palace invasion, where they face off against the chairman Netero and the assassin Zeno Zoldyck.

Neferpitou's key relationships include their unwavering bond with Meruem, for whom they would give their life without hesitation. They also interact with the other Royal Guards, Shaiapouf and Menthuthuyoupi, as comrades serving the same king. Their most emotionally charged relationship is with Gon. Initially, Pitou views Gon as an insignificant threat, but after sensing his immense potential and rage, they recognize him as a danger that could reach even the king. This leads to a final, desperate confrontation.

Development of Neferpitou's character is notable. They begin as a purely instinctual predator, lacking any human moral framework. However, after Meruem's birth and especially after witnessing the king's care for the human Komugi, Neferpitou begins to show signs of greater emotional depth. When Meruem desperately asks them to save Komugi's life, Pitou is moved and weeps, a moment that signals a shift from cold duty to genuine, compassionate loyalty. They commit fully to healing Komugi, even making a humiliating bargain and breaking their own arm to prove submission to Gon to buy time. This transformation from a merciless killer to a being capable of selfless devotion is one of the arc's most significant character arcs.

In their final battle, after realizing Kite cannot be revived, Gon undergoes a violent transformation through a Nen vow, aging himself into an adult form of immense power. Neferpitou, already weakened from healing Komugi, is no match for this form. They are killed by a single devastating blow. However, their loyalty persists even after death. Their Terpsichora ability activates post-mortem, a phenomenon where Nen becomes stronger after death due to strong lingering will. This puppet-dance controls their corpse, allowing them to launch one final, desperate attack against Gon, managing to sever his arm before being completely destroyed. This last act cements Neferpitou as a figure of both monstrous power and tragic, unwavering devotion.
