Description
Eriyurias is a powerful, god-like being central to the conflicts within the world of No. 6. She is not a human character but rather a metaphysical entity, often described as a forest god or nature spirit with absolute power that far surpasses human capabilities. Her name was given to her by a scientist, and she is also known to be the "mother" of the parasitic wasps that plague the city.
In terms of her background and nature, Eriyurias originally lived in harmony with a group known as the Forest Folk, who revered her and sang to her in a sacred pact. This pact involved offerings called "Godly Beds" where she could lay her eggs without harming humans. However, her existence was discovered by researchers and the ruling powers of the utopian city No. 6. Obsessed with obtaining her overwhelming power to control their citizens, the city authorities destroyed the Forest Folk's settlement and massacred its people, an event that left only one survivor, the character Nezumi. The parasitic wasps that later appear in No. 6 are, in fact, her children, and the city's attempts to harness her power through experimentation are what spread the deadly infestation.
Eriyurias's personality is portrayed as ancient, powerful, and driven by a desire for retribution rather than overt benevolence. Having been wronged by the destruction of her worshippers, she seeks revenge against No. 6. This motivation is the driving force behind the mysterious deaths and chaos that unsettle the city's seemingly peaceful society. While she is described as a god, her actions are not necessarily compassionate; she uses humans as instruments to carry out her will, possessing them and manipulating events to bring about the downfall of the city that harmed her followers.
In the story, Eriyurias plays the role of an unseen catalyst until the climax. She orchestrated the capture of the character Safu, a young girl with high synch rates, to use her as a perfect physical medium. Through Safu, Eriyurias is able to communicate and manifest her power directly. She brings the protagonists Shion and Nezumi to her, using her influence to guide their path. In the final confrontation, after the correctional facility is destroyed, Eriyurias fully manifests from Safu's body, transforming into a giant wasp with a golden abdomen and rainbow-colored wings. She then uses her power to remove all the parasitic wasps from the citizens of No. 6, tear down the city's oppressive walls, and heal the wounded protagonists, effectively dismantling the oppressive system that sought to exploit her.
Her key relationship is with the Forest Folk, specifically with Nezumi. As the last surviving member of the tribe who worshipped her, Nezumi is a "Singer" capable of hearing her song and communicating with her. The advanced city of No. 6 is her primary antagonist, as their greed and scientific ambition led to the massacre of her followers and the attempt to enslave her power. Her medium, Safu, agrees to the possession in exchange for one wish: to see her beloved Shion one last time, adding a layer of tragic consent to the arrangement.
In terms of development, Eriyurias evolves from a legend whispered about by exiles into an active agent of change. Initially presented as a mysterious song that causes pain and lights up water, she is eventually revealed to be the mastermind behind the wasp attacks. She does not grow as a character in a human sense but rather progresses from a passive, worshipped entity to an active, vengeful force that directly intervenes to end the conflict and reclaim the territory that was stolen from her and her people.
Her notable abilities are vast and primarily revolve around life and creation. She can lay her eggs inside human hosts, with the larvae eventually consuming the host from the inside out, which is the source of the deadly wasp plague. She also exerts a powerful influence over those who host her children, allowing her to control or guide their actions. She communicates through an ethereal song that only specific individuals, like Nezumi, can hear. Finally, her ultimate power is that of large-scale creation and restoration, as seen when she transforms her form to heal the wounded and physically reshape the environment of No. 6 itself.
